Well-rounded effort leads to 85-58 victory over Bemidji State

ST. CLOUD, MINN. – There are times during the college basketball season where everything just comes together for one single game.
Safe to say that happened for the St. Cloud State University men's basketball team Friday evening.
In the second to last game of the regular season, everything did seem to come together for the Huskies, as they dominated both offensively and defensively over their Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) opponent Bemidji State University. In fact, St. Cloud State was so dominant, the team opened the weekend with an 85-58 victory over Bemidji State, improving to 20-7 overall and 15-6 in NSIC play.
The Huskies were completely and totally dominant in the first half, as they cruised to a 47-23 halftime lead, their largest margin after the opening 20 minutes of play this season. Brindley Theisen (St. Cloud, Minn. / St. Cloud Cathedral) was on fire in the first half, as he led the way with 13 points on 4-6 shooting, including an impressive 3-4 mark from beyond the arc. Sean Smith (Seville, Spain / Canarias Basketball Academy) and Trevon Marshall (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) weren't too shabby either, as they too scored in double-digits for St. Cloud State in the first half. Smith tallied 10 points on 4-5 shooting, while Marshall came in off the bench and scored 11 points for the Huskies and nabbed four skills on the defensive end of the ball as well.
With a 47-23 lead after the opening minutes of play, St. Cloud State continued to pound on the points in the second half. The Huskies took a 28 point lead five minutes in to the half thanks to a three from Diamond Onwuka (Barcelona, Spain / Canarias Basketball Academy) and never looked back. For every basket the Beavers scored, St. Cloud State had an answer, though Bemidji State didn't score all that often. Even when the Beavers managed to whittle the lead to 20 points, the damage had already been done, as the Huskies cruised to victory by a final score of 85-58.
Not a single St. Cloud State player scored 20+ points against Bemidji State, but four individuals scored in double-digits. Theisen ended the game with a team-leading 19 points, while Smith scored 16 on 6-9 shooting. Gage Davis (Bolingbrook, Ill. / Bolingbrook) kept his double-digit scoring streak alive against the Beavers, as he tallied 15 points and a team-leading five rebounds, while Marshall ended the game with 13 points.
With the win, St. Cloud State's overall record improves to 20-7 and the team is 15-6 in NSIC play. The Huskies will close out the regular season at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday when they host the University of Minnesota-Crookston at 5:30 p.m.
