The #1 St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (20-4-2, 12-2-2 NCHC) will be back home on Feb. 8-9 for a pair of games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center against NCHC rival Colorado College (11-13-3, 5-8-2 NCHC).  The game on Feb. 8 will begin at 8:08 p.m. and the game on Feb. 9 will start at 6:07 p.m.  Great tickets are available for both of these games at scsutickets.comÂ

OPPONENT NOTES:   CC leads the series against SCSU 50-48-7...head coach Mike Haviland is in his fifth year as head coach at CC.  Haviland was an assistant coach with the Chicago Blackhawks from 2008-12...SCSU assistant coach Mike Gibbons was an assistant coach at Colorado College from 1988 to 1990...last weekend, CC posted a 4-1 win and a 6-0 loss vs. UMD at home...earlier this year, SCSU gained a 5-3 a d 2-1 victory at CC on Nov. 2-3, 2018...last year at the HBNHC, SCSU posted a 6-1 and 5-1 sweep at the HBNHC on Nov. 17-18, 2017....the last time the Huskies have lost a game at CC was a 4-3 setback on Feb. 22, 2013.  SCSU is 12-2-1 in play against CC since that game...Hobey Baker candidate Jimmy Schuldt has scored 5g/9a in action against the Tigers during his college career that spans 12 games played against CC...Trey Bradley leads CC with 11 goals and 21 points this year...Junior netminder Alex LeClerc is 11-12-3 with a 2.69 GAA this season...SCSU is 24-15-2 in games played at the World Arena since it opened in 1998 and 17-21-4 vs. CC in games played in St. Cloud.
 
IN THE POLLS:  The Huskies received a #1 ranking in the USA TODAY/USA Hockey weekly poll.  In the USCHO.com poll this week, the Huskies earned a #1 ranking. Â
LAST TIME OUT:  The Huskies posted a pair of 5-1 victories over Miami on Feb. 1-2 at the HBNHC.  To open the weekend, SCSU's Jack Poehling scored at :38 of the 1st period to gain an early upper hand on Feb. 1.  Jimmy Schuldt added the GWG in the 2nd period before Ryan Poehling posted two goals and Patrick Newell had one goal in the third.  David Hrenak made 20 saves in the game as SCSU outshot MU 31-21.  SCSU was 2-5 on the power play in the game...on Feb. 2, SCSU scored five unanswered goals to clinch the win.  Blake Lizotte had two power play goals in the contest along with goals by Jack Ahcan (GWG), Robby Jackson and Nick Perbix.  Hrenak had 16 saves as SCSU outshot Miami 36-17.  On the PP, SCSU was 2-6.Â

ALL-TIME LEADER:  SCSU senior Jimmy Schuldt is now tied for the team's all-time lead for points by a defenseman with 107.  Schuldt now has 36g/71a for 107 points.  He is tied for the record with Kelly Hultgren, who had 28g/79a from 1991-95.  Schuldt is the team's all-time leader for goals by a defenseman with 36 and power play goals by a defenseman with 19 during his career...on the topic of Schuldt, he currently leads all NCHC blueliners with 16 points (5g/11a) in 16 NCHC games played this season.  He ranks 8th in the nation with .92 ppg among DI defensemen.
KILLNG TIME:  SCSU owns a penalty kill rate of 88.4%, which ranks third in the nation.  SCSU is 76-of-86 on the penalty kill this season.  SCSU is 11-3-1 when its opponent does not score on the power play this season.
NATIONAL LEADERS: The following is a rundown of where the Huskies rank in the current NCAA stat categories:  Power Play - 6th (25.0%), Offense - 3rd (3.85 gpg), Defense - 8th (2.08 gapg), Scoring Margin - 4th (1.77 margin), Winning Percentage - 1st (.808). Â
NO PLACE LIKE HOME: The Huskies are 12-0-0 at home this season and 13-1-0 in games played in the state of Minnesota. Of note, SCSU's best record at home in a single season was a 14-1-3 mark in 1993-94.  SCSU was 16-3-1 at home in 2001-02 and 16-3-1 at home in 1996-97.  In addition, SCSU was 16-3-2 at home in 2017-18 and 13-3-0 at home in 2013-13.
NEWEST MEMBER: Patrick Newell became the third SCSU player this season to join the 100-point club.  He scored his 100th career point with an assist on Jack Ahcan's goal on Feb. 2 in the first period.  Newell becomes the 33rd player (all games played at the DI level) to join SCSU's 100-point club.  In 132 games played at SCSU, Newell now has 30g/71a for 101 points.  He ranks 6th in the NCHC this season with seven goals scored in league games and 25th in the nation with .50 goals per game.  Newell ranks 17th in the SCSU career charts with 71 assists (tied with Jimmy Schuldt).
STOP FORCE:  David Hrenak owns a 2.09 GAA this season with a .906 save rate.  He is 16-3-1 this season and he won his 30th career game at SCSU with the 5-1 victory over Miami on Feb. 2.  He ranks 11th in the team records for most career wins at 30.
RANKINGS:  In the all-important Pairwise rankings, St. Cloud State and UMass received the top spot with a 58 apiece.  In the KRACH DI rankings, SCSU was rate #1 with a rating of 520.1.  Of note, SCSU has gained 13 NCAA bids since 1989 and the Huskies have advanced to NCAA tournament play five times since 2013 (2018, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2013).
PLAYERS OF THE WEEK:  Ryan Poehling was named the NCHC Offensive Player of the Week and Jimmy Schuldt was named the NCHC Defensive Player of the Week on Feb. 4.  Poehling earned his honor after scoring 2g/3a in the weekend sweep of Miami.  Schuldt added 1g/3a while helping SCSU hold Miami to just two goals in the two game set at the HBNHC.

WORLD JUNIOR SPOTLIGHT: Forward Ryan Poehling helped Team USA gain a second place finish at the 2019 IIHF World Juniors.  Poehling was voted the MVP in the tournament, makde the tourney All-Star Team and was voted the Best Forward in the tournament.  He had five goals and three assists in tournament play (3rd best).  Poehling competed for Team USA at the World Juniors in 2018, where Team USA won a Bronze Medal.  Poehling joined Mark Parrish (1996 & 1997) as the other Husky who has played in two World Junior tourneys for Team USA.  A total of 10 SCSU players have skated for Team USA at the IIHF World Juniors since 1991.
