St. Cloud State Men's Hockey names new captains for 2019-20

St. Cloud State University men's hockey coach Brett Larson has announced that Jack Ahcan (Savage/Burnsville H.S.) will serve as the Huskies' team captain for the upcoming 2019-20 season. He will be joined in 2019-20 by team alternate captains Clark Kuster (St. Louis, Mo./Washington H.S.), Jack Poehling (Lakeville/North H.S.) and Nick Poehling (Lakeville/North H.S.).
The announcement was made by Coach Larson at the Huskies' Fan Appreciation social, which was held at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center on April 18.
Ahcan will return for his fourth season with the Huskies in 2019-20. He finished a stellar junior season with the Huskies by being named to the 2019 CCM/AHCA All-America West Second Team and also the 2018-19 All-NCHC Second Team at defense. He led the Huskies in 2018-19 with 28 assists and also had six goals and 28 points. He was +30 on the plus/minus and also had 55 blocked shots for the Huskies this winter. Â
A resident of Savage, Minn. and grad of Burnsville H.S., Ahcan has recorded 14 goals, 64 assists and 78 points in 111 games played at SCSU.
Kuster has played both as a defenseman and forward during his career with the Huskies. A four-time All-NCHC Academic award winner and NCHC Scholar-Athlete award recipient, Kuster is a resident of St. Louis, Mo. and a grad of George Washington H.S.
Jack Poehling hit a career season-high with his nine goals, nine assists and 18 points for the Huskies in 2018-19. A resident of Lakeville and North High School grad, Jack Poehling has played in 110 games at SCSU with 21 goals and 20 assists to his credit.
Nick Poehling also enjoyed career season-highs in 2018-19 for the Huskies with seven goals, 10 assists and 17 points. The twin brother of Jack Poehling, Nick Poehling has played in 109 games over the past three seasons with 17 goals, 23 assists and 40 points.
The Huskies completed the recent 2018-19 season with a number five ranking in the final NCAA DI polls. SCSU posted a 30-6-3 record and a 19-2-3 NCHC record in 2018-19. The Huskies won their second consecutive NCHC regular season title this winter and also earned an NCAA tournament bid and the number one seed in the NCAA tourney for the second consecutive year. Of note, SCSU has been ranked among the nation's top 10 teams nine times since 2007.
SCSU will open its 2019-20 season on Oct. 5 with an exhibition game at home against the University of Alberta. The Huskies' will begin regular season play on Oct. 11-12 with a weekend series at Bemidji State followed by the regular season home opener against Northeastern University on Oct. 25-26.
