Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee announced that the team signed free agent Schuldt to a one-year, entry level contract.
Schuldt, a Hobey Baker Award Finalist, recently finished his senior year with St. Cloud State University. He led all defensemen in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) with 35 points (10 G, 25 A) and helped lead the Huskies to a regular-season conference title and the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament.
Schuldt finished his collegiate career as one of the most prolific players in SCSU history. He appeared in 156 games with the Huskies and recorded 118 points (38 G, 80), which ranks first among defensemen in school history. He was named the 2018-19 NCHC Player of the Year, the 2018-19 NCHC Defensive Defenseman Award and was named to the 2018-19 and 2017-18 All-NCHC First Team. He is a four-time All-NCHC Academic award winner and a four-time NCHC Scholar-Athlete.
Schuldt, who attended the Golden Knights 2018 Development Camp in June, never missed a game in his collegiate career, playing in 156 consecutive games during his time at St. Cloud State. He is expected to report to the Golden Knights and practice with the team during their morning skate on April 4 and will wear jersey No. 4.
Schuldt is one of many SCSU players to sign pro contracts after the completion of the 2018-19 season. Other Huskies to sign include Ryan Poehling (Montreal), Patrick Newell (New York Rangers), Blake Lizotte (Los Angeles Kings), Jon Lizotte (Wilkes Barre Penguins) and Jacob Benson (Jacksonville Icemen).
The Huskies finished a very productive season, which included 30 wins (3rd in the team record) and set a new school record for fewest losses in a year with six (30-6-3, 19-2-3 NCHC). SCSU won the 2018-19 NCHC regular season title for the second consecutive season and also set a new team record with only 85 goals allowed this winter. The old record of 90 goals allowed was set in 2015-16. SCSU also set a season record for fewest power play goals allowed at 17, while the old record of 18 PPGs allowed was set in 2007-08.
