
Huskies hold No. 9 Minnesota Duluth to a 2-2 tie

St. Cloud State women's hockey held No. 9 ranked Minnesota Duluth to a 2-2 tie in game one of the weekend series. The Bulldogs gained the extra point for their victory in the 3-on-3 overtime period.
The Bulldogs snagged the lead just 9 seconds into the game, however, the Huskies responded fast and tied the game up minutes later. Senior forward Hallie Theodosopoulos put the Huskies on the board at the 11:02 mark left in the first period. Theodospoulos was assisted by Abby Thiessen and Klara Hymlarova. The Huskies took the lead with one minute left to play, but the Bulldogs responded with a power-play goal with eight seconds left in the first. Goal two for the Huskies was scored by freshman Olivia Cvar, as Klara Hymlarova and Jenniina Nylund collected the assist.

Period two went scoreless, but brought many chances for both the Huskies and the Bulldogs. The Huskies saw two power-play opportunities and put eight shots on Bulldogs' Maddie Rooney. The third period went scoreless, bringing two more power-play opportunities for the Huskies. At the end of regulation, the Huskies and Bulldogs were still tied at two goals apiece leading to an overtime period. The five minute period ended in a tie giving both teams a point in the WCHA standings.
The Bulldogs gained the extra point by scoring in the 3-on-3 extra period.

The Huskies and Bulldogs face off again tomorrow for game two of the weekend series at 2:07 pm at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center. Tomorrow's game is also Senior Night for the Huskies.
