WMU defeats St. Cloud State men's hockey, 6-2

The St. Cloud State University men's hockey team (8-12-4, 5-9-0 NCHC) lost by a 6-2 margin to Western Michigan University (11-9-4, 7-5-2 NCHC) on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Lawson Ice Arena in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Much the Huskies' loss on Friday, Jan. 24 at WMU, St. Cloud State fell behind early in the contest with three unanswered goals by Western Michigan in the first period.
WMU took advantage of three power play opportunities to gain a 3-0 lead, which was started at 2:47 of the first with a power play goal by Ronnie Attard. At 12:41 of the first period, the Broncos stretched their lead to 2-0 with a 5x3 power player goal by Michael Joyaux. To cap the early run, Wade Allison added WMU's final power play goal at 14:05 of the first period to make it 3-0.
After the third goal of the game, SCSU replaced starting goalie Jaxon Castor with David Hrenak. Castor was the goalie of record with four saves and three goals allowed in 14:05 minutes of play, while Hrenak finished with 22 saves in 45:41 minutes of play and three goals allowed.
The Huskies notched their first goal of the evening at 16:02 of the first period with a goal by Jake Wahlin, which included a solo assist from Nick Poehling. This was Wahlin's fourth goal of the season and it marked Poehling's eighth assist of the year.
WMU charged back before the end of the first period with a goal by Dawson DiPietro at 18:55, which made the score 4-1.
The lone goal of the second period was added by SCSU's Easton Brodzinski at 1:56, which included assists from Kevin Fitzgerald and Nick Poehling. This was Brodzinski's team leading ninth goal of the campaign and his 39th goal at SCSU. Nick Poehling finished the game with two assists and now has 15 points this season and 55 career points (23g/32a). The assist was Fitzgerald's ninth point of the year and his 46 career point (18g/28a).
In the third period, WMU iced the contest with a second goal by Joyaux at 3:58 and a goal by Josh Passolt at 8:13.
On the night, WMU outshot the Huskies 32-27. In a penalty-filled contest, SCSU had eight penalties for 16 minutes and Western Michigan had eight penalties for 24 minutes. SCSU was 0-4 on the power play and WMU was 3-of-7.
The Huskies will return to action on Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 with a pair of home games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. against Miami University.
