Women’s basketball to honor seniors in final home weekend of regular season
2/12/2020 9:16:00 AM | Women's Basketball
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – It seems like only yesterday the St. Cloud State University women's basketball team was opening the 2019-20 season against Valley City State. Of course, November was certainly not yesterday. Flash forward nearly three months to the day, and the Huskies are playing their final home games of the regular season, as they host Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) foes MSU-Moorhead and Northern State this upcoming weekend.
As it is the last home weekend of the regular season, St. Cloud State will honor its six seniors in between the women's and men's games against Northern State. Those six individuals include Madelin Dammann (Waconia, Minn. / Waconia), Jill Kedrowski (St. Cloud, Minn. / Tech), Jocelyn Johnson (Lakeville, Minn. / Lakeville South), Amanda Lindsay (Becker, Minn. / Becker), Taylor Persche (Woodbury, Minn. / East Ridge) and Kassidy Steen (Cloquet, Minn. / Cloquet), who have led the Huskies to new heights in their final season in 2019-20. Entering the final home weekend of 2019-20, St. Cloud State currently sits in second place in the NSIC North Division thanks to a 14-4 record in conference play.
Live stats, video and WJON's live radio broadcast will be available for both games this weekend, and score updates will be made to the team's official Twitter account (@SCSUHUSKIES_WBB).
Here is a special "senior" edition of the five things to know:
2-0 – The Huskies already face the Dragons and Wolves earlier this season, and the results were nothing short of historic. In the midst of the team's 10 game win-streak, St. Cloud State defeated both MSU-Moorhead and Northern State in the same weekend for the first time since the 2013-14 season. It was also the first time the six Huskies seniors beat the Dragons, as their last win against their NSIC North foe came in 2015.
4 – Four different players scored in double-digits for St. Cloud State in its sweep of MSU-Moorhead and Northern State. In Friday night's opener against the Wolves, the underclassman led the way in scoring, as Nikki Kilboten (Eau Claire, Wis. / North), Brehna Evans (De Pere, Wis. / West De Pere) and Tori Wortz (Hutchinson, Minn. / Hutchinson) led the Huskies to a 68-60 road victory over their opponent. Dammann then led the way against MSU-Moorhead, scoring 23 points for her team, while Wortz and Kilboten also scored in double-digit figures.
64 – From their first season to their last, the six St. Cloud State women's basketball seniors have turned the program into an NSIC title contender. In four seasons with the Huskies, these six seniors have compiled an overall record of 64-41 with a 51-23 mark in NSIC play. In fact, after going 11-16 overall and 9-13 in conference play as freshman, the seniors compiled records of 17-10/14-8 as sophomores, 19-10/14-8 as juniors and currently hold a record of 17-5/14-4 their final season with the program.
5 – These six seniors have racked up the awards while playing at St. Cloud State, particularly on the academic side of things. In 2018-19, five of the six seniors received Academic All-Conference honors, and two of those five individuals were members of the NSIC Academic Team of Excellence. Additionally, Steen became the first player in program history to receive the NSIC Elite 18 award as the student-athlete with the highest GPA participating the quarterfinal round of the conference tournament.
.404 – In case you didn't know, Dammann is pretty good at shooting threes. The senior guard currently ranks third all-time in career three-point shooting percentage, as her .404 career mark only ranks behind Amanda Christianson at .407 and Sascha Hansen at .406. The senior also could join the 1000 career points mark, should St. Cloud State make a deep run in the NSIC tournament. Entering the final home weekend of her career, Dammann has scored 908 career points and pulled in 380 rebounds, 169 assists, 20 blocks and 90 steals.
