ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University men's basketball team was riding high entering Saturday night's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) contest against Augustana University. Unfortunately, the Vikings found a way to bring the Huskies back to earth, as Augustana defeated St. Cloud State Saturday evening by a final score of 81-58.
The Vikings proved to be too much to handle in the opening half, as they cruised to a 47-32 lead over the Huskies after the opening 20 minutes. Still, St. Cloud State showed it had some fight left inside in the second half, as the team battled and attempted to whittle Augustana's lead to a manageable size. In the end, the Vikings offense was just too hot to handle, as the visitors used a surge to fend off the Huskies and win 81-58.
Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) and Trevon Marshall (Evanston, Ill. / Evanston Township) provided the bulk of St. Cloud State's offense, scoring a combined 35 points in the loss. Roberts led the way with 18, while Marshall was right behind with 17 points and four assists. Ethan Schuemer (Willowbrook, Ill. / Lombard) ended as the team's leading rebounder with seven on the night.
With the loss, St. Cloud State's overall record now stands at 13-11 and the team is 10-8 in NSIC play. The Huskies will return to action on Friday, February 14 when they host MSU-Moorhead at 7:30 p.m. in St. Cloud, Minnesota.
