
Huskies defeat DI South Dakota 166-134

ST. CLOUD, MINN. - The St. Cloud State University men's swim and dive could not have asked for a better Saturday. The Huskies were magnificent in their dual meet against the University of South Dakota, as they defeated the visiting Coyotes 166-134, winning 12 of 16 individual events in the process.
St. Cloud State scored plenty of points in the diving events, as first year Isaac Roush (Middleton, Wis. / Middleton) won the 1-meter board for the first time in his career, claiming the top spot in the competition with a score of 257.90. Evan Infante (Kenosha, Wis. / Indian Trail) additionally earned points for the Huskies with a fourth place finish and 234.05 points. Infante was even better on the 3-meter board as he finished third behind a score of 242.80.
Lucas Hammontree (Deerfield, Ill. / Deerfield) was the final diver to earn points for the Huskies Saturday morning thanks to his fifth place finish in 3-meter. The first year scored 225.40 points, and he additionally earned 220.10 points in the 1-meter competition .
Where St. Cloud State truly excelled was in the pool, as the team won 11 of the 14 swim events in the afternoon session. Abe Townley (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake), Jayden Porter (Bismark, N.D. / Century) and Raf Hendricks (Berg En Terblijt, Netherlands / Stella Maris College) each won multiple individual events Saturday afternoon, propelling the Huskies to victory. Additionally, all three were members of at least one victorious Huskies relay team, some both.
Hendricks won three events as an individual and was part of the Huskies 200 yard freestyle relay team. He opened his day with a win in the 200 freestyle race with a time of 1:41.59 and followed that up with wins in the 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly. In the 200 backstroke, Hendricks won with a time of 1:49.68 and took first in the 100 fly with a time of 51.09.
Townley, a sprint specialist, won both freestyle sprint events Saturday afternoon, claiming the title in the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.31 and won the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.19. He additionally anchored St. Cloud State's 200 yard medley relay and led off the 200 yard freestyle relay, helping both teams win their respective relays with times of 1:33.39 and 1:25.27 respectively.
Porter was the final multi-event winner Saturday afternoon, as he swept the breaststroke events. In the 100 yard event, Porter won with a time of 58.27 before claiming the top spot in the 200 with a time of 2:09.30. Like Townley, Porter was also a member of the winning 200 medley relay team, naturally swimming the second leg.
Charlie Koebele (Bismark, N.D. / St. Mary's) took top prize in the 100 backstroke race, finishing first with a time of 52.82, while Andres Hernandez Garcia (Barcelona, Spain / Escola Ipsi) won the 200 yard individual medley with a time of 1:58.78.
Thanks to these and several other strong performances, St. Cloud State defeated South Dakota by a score of 166-134. The Huskies divers will return to action on Saturday, January 30 when they host the St. Cloud State Diving Invite at the Halenbeck Hall Aquatic Center.
