Gophers spoil Huskies' Saturday Homecoming game with quick goal in overtime
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 2/2 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (4-2-0, 0-0-0 NCHC) dropped an overtime thriller to No. 4/4 Minnesota (3-1, 0-0-0 CCHA), 4-3, on Saturday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies tied the game at 3-3 with less than five minutes in the third period to force an overtime before the Gophers scored a goal less than a minute into the overtime.
 
The game was played before an announced sellout crowd of 5,530.
 
TURNING POINT
 
Minnesota scored the game winning goal after stealing the puck from the Huskies behind their own net. Blake McLaughlin grabbed the puck and was able to get it to Sammy Walker, who found the back of the net just 36 seconds into the overtime.
 
TOP HUSKIES
 
The Huskies will now host Wisconsin for a pair of home games at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center next week. Friday's game will start at 7:30 p.m. CT, while Saturday's game is slated to start at 6 p.m. CT. Both games will be televised on Fox 9 +.

- Freshman defensman Jack Peart (Grand Rapids, Minn.) scored his first career goal in the third period.
- With the loss, the Huskies move to 35-57-12 all-time against the Gophers, and have won six of the last nine dating back to Nov. 27, 2015.
- Saturday's game was played in front of an announced crowd of 5,530.
- Walker now moves into a tie with junior forward Jami Krannila (Nokia, Finland) with his third goal of the season.
- Peart and freshman defenseman Josh Luedtke (Minnetonka, Minn.) recorded their first career points with a goal and assist, respectively.
