Torve ends an 11 year drought for St. Cloud State, becoming the first Husky to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors since 2010. More impressive, the fifth year setter is the first St. Cloud State student-athlete to be named First Team Academic All-District since Swen Minnema earned the honor in 1995. Torve is certainly deserving, as she's been stellar both on and off the court for the Huskies, maintaining a 3.94 grade point average (GPA) while majoring in marketing. As the team's starting setter, Torve has put together a season to remember, wracking up 1203 assists in 28 matches, averaging 11.97 per set during the regular season. Additionally, the fifth year setter leads the nation in total assists entering the NSIC Tournament and ranks fourth in assists/set while leading the conference in both categories.Â
This is not the first postseason recognition Torve has received in 2021. In addition to earning Academic All-District honors on Thursday, Torve was named First Team All-NSIC last week and voted the conference's Most Outstanding Senior by the NSIC coaches. As a junior in 2019, Torve earned Second Team All-NSIC honors, is a three-time Academic All-Conference Team of Excellence honoree and was named a Myles Brand Award winner in 2020.Â
Torve was one of four student-athletes from the NSIC named to the seven-person team. Student-athletes are nominated by their institution's sports information directors/athletic communications representatives and are selected by the members of CoSIDA. Torve will advance to the Academic All-America ballot, the winners of which will be announced in early December.
