
Rachel, Torve take home NSIC weekly honors

BURNSVILLE, MINN. - St. Cloud State University volleyball teammates Linsey Rachel (Maple Lake, Minn. / Maple Lake) and Maddy Torve (Loretto, Minn. / Heritage Christian Academy) are well established names in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). After leading the #12 Huskies to their first regular season conference title in almost 40 years, the duo earned NSIC weekly honors, as Rachel was named the NSIC Offensive Player of the Week while Torve earned her fourth NSIC Setter of the Week honor this season.
Rachel earned NSIC honors for the second consecutive week after putting up monster numbers as St. Cloud State's top offensive weapon. The senior outside hit .376 and tallied 50 total kills over the course of three matches, averaging 4.55 kills per set in the process. She additionally tallied 33 digs during the week and added four block assists and one ace in wins over Bemidji State, Sioux Falls and #14 SMSU. After opening the week with a .464 hitting percentage and 15 kills against the Beavers, Rachel got better against the Cougars, tallying 16 kills and 14 digs in the four-set win. She saved her best, though, for last. Rachel helped the Huskies clinch their first NSIC Regular Season Title since 1982 by tallying a match-leading 19 kills in the win over #14 SMSU, 12 digs and a season-high four blocks assists.
Torve was equally impressive during the week, as she became the first St. Cloud State volleyball student-athlete since Clara Krenz to earn NSIC weekly honors four times in the same season. The fifth year setter averaged a season-high 13.09 assists per set in wins over Bemidji State, Sioux Falls and SMSU while leading the Huskies to a .292 team hitting percentage. Torve tallied 44 assists against both the Beavers and Mustangs and racked up 56 win the four-set win over the Cougars on Friday. The 144 total assists during the week moved Torve within five of the 4000 assists milestones as she continues to rank third all-time in career assists.
