MOORHEAD, MINN. – It just wasn't the St. Cloud State University women's basketball team's night in Moorhead, Minnesota. The team entered Friday night's game against MSU-Moorhead riding a seven-game win streak with five wins over conference opponents. The Dragons' lair was not kind to the Huskies, as they suffered their first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) game of the season at the hands of their hosts. Though St. Cloud State played well in the opening half, a third quarter scoring drought spelled doom for the team, as it fell 51-39 to MSU-Moorhead.
INTO THE DRAGON'S LAIR
It was clear from the very beginning the Dragons would give the Huskies all they could handle, as the two teams were deadlocked in score from the get go. Midway through the second quarter, the two teams were tied 16-16 before St. Cloud State managed to outscore MSU-Moorhead 7-2 to take a 23-18 lead. The Huskies also surrendered just one three-pointer in the entire first half, though the Dragons did manage to score points inside the paint, resulting in St. Cloud State's slim 26-25 halftime lead.
Things took a turn in the second half, as MSU-Moorhead jumped out to a 35-28 with five minutes remaining in the third quarter. While the Huskies managed to curtail the Dragons scoring efforts in the final five minutes, they were unable to make up the deficit, resulting in a 42-28 MSU-Moorhead lead entering the fourth and final quarter. While St. Cloud State's offense returned in the final 10 minutes, the Huskies were unable to close the gap, as they suffered a 51-39 loss in Moorhead, Minnesota.
