
Swim and dive hosts Saint John's/Saint Ben's Tuesday

ST. CLOUD, MINN. - It was almost like deja vu in the St. Cloud State University Aquatic Center Tuesday night. The St. Cloud State swim and dive team once again hosted Saint John's University in a crosstown sprint, complete with divers. As a team, the Huskies scored 84 points in their final duel before the NCAA Championships, which will take place March 17-20 Birmingham, Alabama.
St. Cloud State once again won every individual event Tuesday afternoon, sweeping the 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 butterfly races. Garrett Alleven (Marion, Kansas) and Charlie Koebele (Bismarck, N.D. / Century) finished 1-2 in the 50 free with times of 22.33 and 23.55 respectively. Dylan Von Bargen (Kansas City, Missouri / Staley) also competed in the race and took fourth with a time of 27.85.
Five Huskies competed in the 50 yard breaststroke, and Abe Townley (White Bear Lake, Minn. / White Bear Lake) won the race thanks to his time of 27.37. Joe Esterle (Waukesha, Wis. / Waukesha South), Sam Deitrich (Appleton, Wis. / Appleton North), Parker Kabe (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) and Joey Clark (Mandan, N.D. / Mandan) additionally competed in the event, finishing second through fifth.
Three St. Cloud State swimmers competed in the 50 back and 50 fly events. Raf Hendricks (Berg En Terblijt, Netherlands / Stella Maris College) won the 50 fly with a time of 23.58, while Koebele won the 50 breast with a time of 26.88. Jayden Porter (Bismarck, N.D. / Century) took second in both races with times of 27.34 (fly) and 31.15 (back). Esterle was third in the fly with a time of 28.28, while Jacob Swier (Parker, Colorado / Chaparral) finished third in the backstroke with a time of 32.47.
The Huskies also found plenty of success on the diving boards, as Evan Infante (Kenosha, Wis. / Indian Trial) finished third in 1-meter with a score of 376.90 and second in 3-meter with a score of 423.55.
In the women's diving competition, Taylor Terfher qualified for nationals on the 1-meter board.
Thanks to these performances, St. Cloud State won its final duel of 2020-21 58-31. The Huskies will return to action at the NCAA Championships March 17-20 in Birmingham, Alabama.
