ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State University volleyball team experiences many ups and a few downs on its first day out in Washington. The Huskies opened the day with a strong 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-13, 25-23) win over Western Oregon University improving to 5-0 on the season. St. Cloud State's win streak sadly came to a halt in Friday evening's match, though, as the Huskies fell to host Centra Washington 3-0 (21-25, 23-25, 14-25) to end the day.
DOIN' THE WIN NO. 5
A little bit of Linsey Rachel (Maple Lake, Minn. / Maple Lake) and Kenzie Foley (Sergeant Bluff, Iowa / Sergeant Bluff-Luton) on the outside. A little bit of Abigail Groeneweg (Forest Lake, Minn. / Forest Lake) from behind the service line. A little bit of Maddy Torve (Loretto, Minn. / Heritage Christian Academy) makes everything all right. After dropping the first set to Western Oregon 26-24, St. Cloud State stormed back to win the set 3-1 (24-26, 25-16, 25-13, 25-23) behind a blistering offensive attack. Trailing by as many as four points early in the second half, the Huskies offensive game plan came to life, as they used power on the pins and from behind the service line to take the second set and eventually the match. Rachel and Foley led St. Cloud State's blistering offensive attack with 16 and 13 kills respectively, while Rachel and Groeneweg led defensively with 14 digs each. Torve added 44 assists, piloting the Huskies to a .243 team hitting percentage for the match.
LATE NIGHT ACTION
The Huskies ran into another young, scrappy and hungry team in their second match of the day against host Central Washington. Despite leading early in the first set, St. Cloud State fell to the upstart Wildcats 25-21 and were forced into a must win situation after falling 25-23 in set two. The Huskies were unable to come away with the third set win, though, falling to Central Washington in straight sets 3-0 (21-25, 23-25,

QUOTABLES
St. Cloud State Volleyball Head Coach Chad Braegelmann on Western Oregon:
"We played a very scrappy and determined Western Oregon team today that I thought competed much better than we did. They put a lot of defensive pressure on us and made our attackers work. We outplayed them, and I'm proud of the way we played in sets two and three and the beginning of set four. We made too many unforced errors in all of set one and late in set four. In the end, we made enough plays to get a win, but we need to be more consistent and play better all the way around."
