
Huskies return with 93-80 win over Concordia-St. Paul

Roberts tallies fifth double-double of the season with 24 points and 13 rebounds
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The hiatus is over for the St. Cloud State University men's basketball team. Twenty-three days removed from their last competition, the Huskies returned to play in glorious fashion, defeating Concordia-St. Paul 93-80 in nonconference action. Thanks to the win, St. Cloud State is now 8-6 overall and 4-3 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play.
GAME SUMMARY
St. Cloud State's offense was hotter than hot to open the game, as the Huskies went 4-4 from the floor to blast out to a 9-2 lead over Concordia-St. Paul. The Golden Bears, however, were not to be deterred. Though the visitors were never able to catch the Huskies, Concordia-St. Paul did make a sizeable dent in St. Cloud State's double-digit lead, whittling it down to 50-43 at halftime.
The Huskies came out guns blazing in the second half, jumping out to a 68-56 lead with 13:23 remaining in regulation. The Golden Bears, though, were not deterred, as they outscored the Huskies 18-9 in the ensuing four minutes, cutting the lead to 77-74. St. Cloud State fire power proved to be too much, however, as St. Cloud State closed on a 16-7 run to clinch the 93-80 victory.
TOP HUSKIES
- Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) tallied his fifth double-double on the season, scoring a team-leading 24 points with 13 boards Monday night. He additionally tallied five assists and one block in the win.
- Matthew Willert (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) added 18 points in the win, while Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis. / Germantown) and Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington, Ill. / Bloomington) each scored 15 points a piece.
- Ryan Bagley (Pocatello, Idaho / Burley) closed the night with 12 points and seven rebounds.
1000 POINT CLUB
Roberts was honored in a pregame celebration, as he scored his 1000th point in the Huskies 84-80 win over Northern State on December 18. The junior is the 44th person to eclipse the milestone and has scored 1037 points in his three years with the program.
UP NEXT
It's a tight turnaround for St. Cloud State, as the team hits the road Friday to take on Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa. Tip off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
