ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Cloud State University Dance Team had another impressive showing at the UCA/UDA Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championships last weekend in Orlando, Fla. The Huskies won their third consecutive National Championship in the Gameday performance category, and finished second in the jazz and pom categories.
After arriving in Orlando on Jan. 12, the Huskies first day of competition came on Friday, Jan. 14, where the Huskies were looking to win their third consecutive national title in the gameday division after placing first in 2020 and 2021. The Huskies did just that, completing the three-peat after magnificent performances in the preliminary and finals rounds.
"We were so proud of our team," said head coach Brittany Kwallek. "The category gets a lot tougher every year, so it makes us so proud to be national champions once again. The girls work so hard throughout the season, and it's great to see that hard work pay off. Most of our team has been with us from the start, so it means a lot to them to maintain the legacy they have built."
What makes the three-peat even more impressive is the fact that this is just the team's third time ever performing in the gameday division. The Huskies first entered the gameday portion of the meet in 2020 and have claimed a national championship in the event each year.
"The girls take a ton of pride in what they bring to gameday. It connects back to what they do on the sidelines of Huskies games. I think that gives them a lot of pride in representing our university in that way."
After a thrilling start to the competition, the Huskies returned for their jazz and pom performances, where they finished as the nation's runner-up in each category.
The week in Disney was a highly successful one for the Huskies Dance Team, as the team thanked their choreographer, coaches, parents and hardworking teammates on its Facebook page following the three-peat performance.
