Huskies set NCHC and program record with 19 goals in series
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 6/5 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (14-6-0, 6-4-0 NCHC) finished off a home series sweep of Miami Ohio (4-18-2, 1-12-1 NCHC) with an 8-0 win on Saturday night at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies set an NCHC record for most goals in a series in the win, tallying 19 goals over two games against the RedHawks.

Sophomore forward Veeti Miettinen (Espoo, Finald) and graduate forward Kevin Fitzgerald (Hinsdale, Ill.) led the way for the Huskies, each finding the back of the net twice. In goal, graduate goalie David Hrenak (Považská Bystrica, Slovakia) recorded his 13th career shutout, stopping all 14 RedHawk shots.

TURNING POINT

Like Friday, the Huskies wasted no time getting on the board, though they waited nearly eight full minutes to score their first goal of the night. After Miami's Michael Regush was called for interference at 6:46, St. Cloud State's power play unit once again went to work, peppering Ludvig Persson with shot after shot. Miettinen eventually found the back of the net, using a wicked wrister from the right circle to put the Huskies ahead 1-0 at 7:20.

Two minutes later, it was Miettinen again who bolstered St. Cloud State's lead, putting his team ahead 2-0 after a neutral zone turnover at 9:54 in the first. The Huskies would end the period with a 3-0 advantage, as a give-and-go between senior forward Micah Miller (Grand Rapids, Minn.), junior forward Kyler Kupka (Camrose, Alberta) and Fitzgerald resulted in St. Cloud State's third goal of the game with three minutes remaining in the first.

The second period resulted in more goals, as senior forward Easton Brodzinski (Blaine, Minnesota) drew a penalty on a breakaway and earned a penalty shot. The savvy fifth year senior did not miss, blasting the puck past Perrson at 4:49 in the second period to put the Huskies up 4-0. St. Cloud State's special teams, then, went on display in the final half of the second, as the Huskies scored both a shorthanded goal (Josh Luedtke - 13:35) and power play goal (Sam Hentges - 15:50) to go up 6-0 after two.
