Perbix recorded eight points in historic sweep of Miami
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey senior defenseman Nick Perbix (Elk River, Minn.) has been named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference Defenseman of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. Perbix had a historic week on the ice for the Huskies in their weekend sweep of Miami (OH), tallying eight points on the weekend – one goal and seven assists – and helped St. Cloud State kill off all 10 of its penalties on the weekend. He tallied three assists on the power play, two on game-winning goals and two on short-handed goals over the weekend.
It is the second time this season Perbix has been named the Defenseman of the Week after earning the honor on Dec. 6 following his performance against North Dakota. He is the eighth Husky to earn weekly honor this season, as he follows junior forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta) and freshman forward Mason Salquist (Grand Forks, N.D.) being named Forward and Rookie of the Week on Oct. 4, graduate goalie David Hrenak (Povazska Bystrica, Slovakia) being named Goalie of the Week on Oct. 11, freshman defenseman Jack Peart (Grand Rapids, Minn.) being named Rookie of the Week on Oct. 18 and graduate defenseman Seamus Donohue (North Oaks, Minn.) being named Defenseman of the Week on Nov. 8, himself on Dec. 6 and senior defenseman Spencer Meier (Sartell, Minn.) on Jan. 3.
Perbix produced one of the most productive weekends in program and NCHC history against the RedHawks, leading the Huskies 11-1 and 8-0 victories. The Huskies' 19 goals set an NCHC record and D-I program record for most goals in a two-game series, surpassing the Huskies mark of 16 goals on Nov. 13-14, 2015, against Western Michigan for the NCHC record and 17 goals on Jan. 28-29, 1994 against Air Force for the program record.
The newly announced Olympian set numerous school records when he recorded the first six-point game in NCHC history in Friday's 11-1 win over the RedHawks. Among program records, he matched the school record marks points scored (six), assists (five), points by a defenseman (six) and assists by a defenseman (five). Perbix is the first Husky to hit those marks since:
The Huskies hit the road this week to take on North Dakota on Jan. 28-29. Puck drop from Grand Forks is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT on Friday and 6 p.m. CT on Saturday, with a broadcast available on MidCo Sports and NCHC.tv.
