A Letter from Director of Athletics Heather Weems:
Happy New Year, Huskies alumni, fans, and friends! I hope you enjoyed a memorable holiday season and connected with the people who matter most to each of you.
As we return from winter break, we are grateful for a successful first semester and start to our athletics year. Our student-athletes not only performed well in competition, but with grades now submitted, had a great fall in the classroom. We are proud of the young men and women who represent St. Cloud State and take seriously their roles as students, athletes, and leaders and mentors on campus and within our community. And we are so thankful for our fans, parents, and alumni who filled the stands and rallied our student-athletes to victory.
With winter seasons continuing and spring sports about to begin, we are once again preparing for more COVID challenges. Like you, we are exhausted from the protocols and uncertainties. But we remain committed to doing what we can to protect our community, support the demands on our health care professionals, and provide the opportunity for our student-athletes to do what they love – play games!
That said, and given local infection rates and trends with the more contagious Omicron variant, we are increasing efforts to require masking during all athletics events hosted in our facilities to minimize contest cancellations and COVID transmission. To enter our events, Huskies fans aged 3 and older will need to be masked beginning the week of January 10. We will do our best to encourage and remind you to keep those masks on throughout the events. But we need your help. Please honor your fellow Huskies and our Central Minnesota community by protecting the pack with mask use during games.
We all dream of the day when COVID is replaced as the top headline and the cancellations and protocols that have become so much a part of daily life cease. But for now, help us keep our Huskies on the ice, the court, the field, the track, the mat, and in the pool. And help us keep our fans healthy and our stands open.
Wishing you all happiness, connection, and meaning in the New Year. We are grateful for your support.
GO Huskies!!!!
