Huskies to take on No. 12 Southern Nazarene & Arkansas Monticello

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - St. Cloud State men's basketball team is back in action and will open their 2022-23 season on the road taking part in the NSIC/MIAA/GAG Crossover Tournament in Kansas City, MO.

The Huskies will go up against No. 12 Southern Nazarene on Friday, November 11 and Arkansas Monticello Saturday, November 12. Friday's game is set for 11:00 a.m. CT tip-off and Saturday's game for 1:00 p.m. CT tip-off. Live stats will be available on the Central Region Challenge tournament page.

The Matchups
Friday's season opener will be the first meeting between St. Cloud State and Southern Nazarene since 2019. The Huskies fell 81-61 to the Storm back in March 2019. The Storm ended their 2021-22 season in the GAG Championship with a loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State. They ended with a 21-10 record. Southern Nazarene was selected to finish first in the GAG Coaches Poll for 2022-23 and is ranked No. 12 in the NCAA DII Coaches Poll.

Saturday's matchup will be the first meeting between St. Cloud State and Arkansas Monticello. The Weevils ended their 2021-22 season with a 10-18 record. Arkansas Monticello was selected to finish 10th in the GAG Coaches Poll for 2022-23.

NSIC Preseason Poll
The Huskies were selected to finish 13th overall in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. In the north division, the Huskies were selected fifth in a tie with Minot State.

2022-23 St. Cloud State Huskies
St. Cloud State enters into its first year under the leadership of Head Coach Quincy Henderson. The Huskies bench will have a few familiar faces while also looking different from a season ago with the addition of five transfer athletes and two freshmen.

#0 - Andre Renta (6'-1" Fr. Hudson, WI)
Renta's first season with the Huskies. A 2022 graduate of Hudson High School in Hudson, WI.

#1 - Tommy Chatman (6'-4 Jr. Brooklyn Park, MN)
Transferred to St. Cloud State in 2022-23 from New Mexico Junior College. Started in 30 games averaging 9.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game. All-Conference player in the NJCAA WJCAC.

#3 - Jalen Griffin (6'-1" So. Grand Prairie, TX)
Transferred to St. Cloud State in 2022-23 from Panola Junior College.

#4 - Joe Mutimer (6'-0" Jr. Melbourne, Australia)
Appeared in 28 games with six starts at point guard as a sophomore. Scored 113 points in 429 minutes.

#10 - Ryan Bagley (6'-3" 5th-Sr. Pocatello, ID)
The starting point guard for the Huskies in 2021-22. Appeared and started all 29 games. Scored 427 points, 168 rebounds, 93 assists, and 52 steals in 1069 total minutes. Lead the NSIC in steals for 2021-22.

#12 - Cameron Alexander (6'-2" 5th-Sr. Hazelhurst, MS)
Appeared in 29 games scoring 102 points during the 2021-22 season. Had a career high 19 points against Northern State (Feb. 4).

#20 - Dominic Aguilar (6'-3" So. Fergus Falls, MN)
Transferred to St. Cloud State from Bethel University in 2022-23. Appeared in 22 games averaging 20 minutes a game shooting 47% from the field and 46% from the 3-point line at Bethel.

#21 - Kevin Cook (6'-7" Jr. Milwaukee, WI)
Transferred to St. Cloud State from Central Community College in 2022-23. Started all 27 games and led in scoring and rebounding with 14 points and 10.5 rebounds per game for the Raiders. Named to the Nebraska Community College Athletic Conference All-Conference Team and All-Region 9 team.

#22 - Matthew Willert (6'6" Jr. Buffalo, MN)
Appeared in all 29 games with 24 starts as a sophomore. Scored 387 total points with 147 rebounds. Averaged 13.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. Scored double-digits in 21 of 29 games.

#24 - Tony Dahl (6'-4" R-Fr. Buffalo, MN)
Redshirted in 2020-21 to preserve a season of eligibility. Served as a student manager in 2021-22.

#30 - Austin Jentzen (6'-7" So. St. Michael, MN)
Transferred to St. Cloud State from Redlands Community College in 2022-23. Started in 25 of 27 games averaging 7.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and shot 53% from the field for the Cougars.

#32 - Luke Taylor (6'-6" Sr. Germantown, WI)
Appeared in all 29 games with 18 starts as a junior. Clocked 600 minutes scoring 197 points and 97 rebounds.

#34 - Sam Rex (6'-3" So. San Diego, CA)
Rex's second season with the Huskies after transferring from Notre Dame De Namur to St. Cloud in 2021-22. Appeared in 11 games last season.

#42 - Zachary Zrust (6'-8" Fr. Buffalo, MN)
Zrust's first season with the Huskies. A 2022 graduate of Buffalo High School in Buffalo, MN.
