
St. Cloud State Men's Basketball Falls in an OT Heartbreaker

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State men's basketball team opened up Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) play in a heated battle with the No. 7 Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. The game ended in regulation at 85 a piece and the Huskies fell just short in over time to fall 94-89 to UMD. Matthew Willert lead the Huskies in scoring putting up 18 points followed by Luke Taylor with 17.
GAME SUMMARY
It was a slow start for both teams as seven minutes into the first half the score was only 9-6 UMD. Despite the slow the start, the Huskies found their shooting grove putting them up 14 points with five and half minutes left in the first. The Bulldogs rallied backed and hit a late jump shot with three seconds left in the first. The Huskies went into the locker down just one point for a 39-38 score at half. Minnesota Duluth's Drew Blair's shooting was hot as he put up 22 first half points for the Bulldogs. Ryan Bagley lead the charge with seven points for the Huskies while Matthew Willert and Tommy Chatman tallied six points.
Back on the court for the second, Minnesota Duluth and St. Cloud went back and fourth. With five minutes left in the second the Huskies found themselves down nine points but that did not deter them. Luke Taylor and Matthew Willert knocked down key shots to help the Huskies bounce back. Tommy Chatman drew a foul with 49 seconds left and hit both of his free throws to tie up the game to send the Bulldogs and Huskies to overtime. Matthew Willert and Luke Taylor each put up 12 points in the second.
In overtime, the Bulldogs took a five point lead with two minutes left. The Huskies shooting was not in their favor as they were unable to respond and ended falling 94-89. A total of six different Huskies scored in the double digits for the evening.

The Huskies are back in Halenbeck Hall this Thanksgiving weekend. On Saturday, St. Cloud will host Northern Michigan and Sunday Michigan Tech will come to town. Both games are set for a 1:00 p.m. CT start.
