Hentges scores twice, Huskies score three power play goals in 4-1 victory
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Senior forward Sam Hentges (New Brighton, Minn.) scored twice to power No. 11 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (16-11-4, 8-9-4 NCHC) past Colorado College (9-19-3, 6-14-1 NCHC), 4-1, on Friday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Hentges' pair of goals and a first period  goal from senior captain Spencer Meier (Sartell, Minn.) gave the Huskies three power play goals in the game, the fifth time this season they have found the back of the net at least three times.

TURNING POINT

The Huskies offense showed no signs of struggle, as they set to tone early in the game by peppering Colorado College with a variety of shots. Eventually, the Huskies struck first at 9:44 in the first period, as Meier found the back of the net on St. Cloud State's first power play opportunity of the evening. From that point on, the Huskies scoring train was rolling, as senior forward Easton Brodzinski (Blaine, Minn.) scored a dizzying even-strength goal at 16:29 to extend the St. Cloud State lead 2-0 before the end of the first period.

The goals continued to come for the Huskies in the second, as Hentges scored St. Cloud State's second power play goal of the game, extending the lead to 3-0 at 3:27 in the period. After Colorado College found the back of the net with roughly seven minutes remaining in the period, Hentges had the perfect answer to the Tigers' goal, as he scored his second of the night, once again on the powerplay, to regain a three-goal advantage for the Huskies. The senior blasted the puck past the Colorado College netminder at 18:47 in the period, not only capturing a 4-1 lead for St. Cloud State but swinging the momentum back in the Huskies direction as well. That was all senior goalie David Hrenak (Považská Bystrica, Slovakia) and St. Cloud State needed to secure a scoreless third period, as the Huskies cruised through the third period to a 4-1 victory.

TOP HUSKIES
- Hentges was named the First Star of the Game after scoring his eighth and ninth goals of the season and adding an assist Friday evening. The senior now has 17 points this season with nine goals and eight assists in just 14 games played.
- Sophomore forward Veeti Miettinen (Espoo, Finland) and senior defenseman Nick Perbix (Elk River, Minn.) were each named the Second and Third Star of the Game after recording assists on each of Hentges' goals.
- Hrenak allowed just one goal on 22 shots, including eight in the third period.
- The Huskies scored 3+ power play goals in a single game for the fifth time this season. The last time St. Cloud State scored 3+ power play goals that many times in a single season was in 2008-09, when the Huskies did it six times in the same season.
- The nation's leading power play unit exploded once again on Friday, improving to 33.3 percent (41-of-123) and 41 power play goals. The Huskies also improve to 15-5-2 when scoring on the power play this season.
- Good things continue to happen when the Huskies score early and often, as St. Cloud State tallied two first period goals. The Huskies have outscored their opponents 39-14 in the opening period this season, and improve to 15-4-1 when scoring first, 13-3-1 when leading after the first period, and 15-0-2 when leading after two periods.
- Hentges continued his impressive play in his senior season, tallying a season-best three points with two goals and an assist. His three points also matched a career-best, a mark he has now hit five times, but has not done since Nov. 9, 2019, against Northern Michigan.
- The senior forward's pair of goals is the second multi-goal of the season, and the fourth of his career.
- The 2022 Olympian has produced 17 points in 14 games this season, good enough for a mark of 1.2 points per game.
- Brodzinski found the back of the net for the first time in 11 games with his 12th goal of the season, as he moves into sixth place all-time in program history with 67 career goals.
- The senior forward's goal was the game-winner, his 13th career game-winning goal, which moved him into a four-way tie for the most in program history with Joe Jensen, David Morley and Ryan Lasch.
- Meier found the back of the net for the third time in his last seven games and for the fifth time this season. He set new career highs with his fifth goal and fourth power play goal of the season.
- Perbix's two assists give him 22 assists and 25 points on the season, both new career highs for the Husky Olympian.
