The Huskies fall to MSU Moorhead 92-77 Sunday afternoon
ST. CLOUD, MINN. – The St. Cloud State University men's basketball team 2021-22 season came to a close Sunday afternoon, as the Huskies fell to MSU Moorhead 92-77 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) / Sanford Health Tournament Quarterfinal round. St. Cloud State closes the season with an overall record of 11-18 and a 6-12 mark in NSIC play.
GAME SUMMARY
Both the Huskies and Dragons were hot early in the game, as the two teams scored on their first three possessions in the offensive zone. By the first media time out, MSU Moorhead held a slight 11-10 lead over St. Cloud State, though the Huskies were able to match the Dragons shot for shot through the remainder of the half. Using a strong first half by Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis. / Germantown) and clutch shooting from Ryan Bagley (Pocatello, Iadho / Burley) and Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington, Ill. / Bloomington), St. Cloud State was not only able to hang with MSU Moorhead, but eventually take a 42-39 into the locker room at halftime.
Offense continued to be the star of the show in the second half, as both the Huskies and Dragons traded baskets in the early minutes. The aggressive play resulted in a 51-51 tie five minutes in, but a 16-0 run by MSU Moorhead gave the high seed Dragons a 66-51 lead with 10:52 remaining in regulation. St. Cloud State attempted to recover, but luck was not on the Huskies' side, as they fell by a final score of 92-77.
TOP HUSKIES
- Anthony Roberts (Chicago, Ill. / Oak Park) closed the season with a team-leading 22 points on 8-15 shooting.
- Caleb Donaldson (Bloomington, Ill. / Bloomington) added 14 points in the loss and tallied a team-leading seven rebounds Sunday evening.
- Ryan Bagley (Pocatello, Idaho / Burley), Luke Taylor (Germantown, Wis. / Germantown) and Matthew Willert (Buffalo, Minn. / Buffalo) all scored in double-digits for St. Cloud State on Sunday. Taylor closed the game with 14 points, while Willert and Bagley added 12 and 10 respectively.
