
Perbix Signs Professional Contract with Tampa Bay Lightning

Perbix inks ATO contract for 2021-22, one-year entry-level deal for 2022-23 season
TAMPA BAY – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey senior defenseman Nick Perbix (Elk River, Minn.) signed a professional contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning (NHL), the organization announced on Thursday. Perbix inked a one-year, entry level contract and will finish the 2021-22 season with the Syracuse Crunch on an AHL amateur tryout contract. The Elk River High School product was selected by the Lightning in the sixth round (169th overall) in the 2017 NHL Early Entry Draft.
Perbix had a banner year in his fourth and final season donning the red and black, as he became the 10th Husky in program history to earn National Collegiate Hockey Conference First Team honors after totaling 31 points with six goals and a team-best 25 assists. His assist and point totals are both career-highs, while his 25 assists are the fifth-most in the NCHC and second-most by an NCHC defenseman this season. His 1.22 points per game in NCHC play led all defenseman as well.
Perbix produced one of the most productive weekends in program and NCHC history against Miami (Jan. 21-22), leading the Huskies to an NCHC record 19 goals in 11-1 and 8-0 victories. Perbix contributed in a big way for the Huskies, tallying eight points on the weekend, including the first six-point game in NCHC history in Friday's win over the RedHawks. Among program records, he matched the school record marks points scored (six), assists (five), points by a defenseman (six) and assists by a defenseman (five).
A Hobey Baker Award nominee in 2021-22, Perbix earned NCHC Defenseman of the Week honors twice (Dec. 6, Jan. 24), and was named the NCHC Player of the Month and Hockey Commissioners of America (HCA) Co-National Player of the Month for January after tallying a team-high 12 points – two goals and 10 assists – seven blocks and a +1 mark in five January games.
The fourth-year blue liner was one of two Huskies to represent Team USA at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing this past February. He played in all four of Team USA's games in Beijing, recording an assist on a goal from teammate Sam Hentges in the Olympic quarterfinals.
In 135 career games, Perbix totaled 89 career points, 22 goals and 67 assists with four power play goals, five game-winning goals and a +21 mark on the ice. He earned 2019 All-NCHC Rookie Team honors following a 20-point (5g/15a) performance in his debut season (2018-19) and earned All-NCHC Second Team honors in 2020-21 after recording 23 points (7g/13a). Perbix earned a spot on the NCHC Frozen Faceoff All-Tournament and NCAA Northeast Region All-Tournament team honors while helping the Huskies earn its second-ever appearance in the NCAA Frozen Four.
Over his four-year stay in St. Cloud, Perbix earned NCHC weekly honors six times, one monthly honor and was Academic All-Conference four times.
