ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The St. Cloud State Swim & Dive team will send 15 student-athletes to the NCAA Division II Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, set to take place March 9-12 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C. The Huskies will have 15 athletes compete in 23 events at the championships, 19 in individual events and four in relay competitions.
Each day of the meet will have a preliminary session start at 9:00 a.m. CT, followed by a finals session at 5:00 p.m. CT. Fans can follow along with the action with live results through swimmeetresults.tech, while live streams of the meet will be available through NCAA.com.
The Husky women will be well represented in the pool and on the diving board, as the Huskies earned eight swimming qualifications (six individual and two relay) and eight diving qualifications. In the pool, graduate Alexis Burroughs (Ladysmith, Wis.), sophomore Kara Cowell (Neenah, Wis.) and freshman Anna Reschko (Germany) each qualified for two events. Burroughs will swim in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle, while Cowell will swim in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke and Reschko will compete in the 100-yard butterfly and 100-yard freestyle. Burroughs received All-America honors in the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle relays in 2020, while Cowell and Reschko seek their first All-America honors in North Carolina.
Once again, a slew of divers will be representing the cardinal and black in North Carolina, as graduate Annaliesa Anderson (West Bend, Wis.), graduate Madison Brinkman (Grey Eagle, Minn.), freshman Kailey Fossell (Tower, Minn.) and junior Meredith Matchinsky (St. Cloud, Minn.) will all compete in the 1- and 3-meter diving events. Three will be looking to repeat as All-American, while Fossell will be making her NCAA Championships debut. Brinkman has recorded three All-America honors in her career (1M and 3M in 2020, 1M in 2021), while Matchinsky has earned two (1M and 3M in 2020) and Anderson one in 2019 (3M).
The Husky men will be highlighted by sophomore Raf Hendriks (Berg en Terblijt, Netherlands) and junior Abe Townley (White Bear Lake, Minn.), who qualified for three and two events, respectively. Hendriks will swim in the 200-yard freestyle, the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard backstroke, while Townley will take the pool in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle. Each are returning All-Americans, as Townley earned All-America honors with a 15th-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle in 2020, while Hendriks earned a pair of All-America honors in 2021 with a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke and a 14th-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle.
A quartet of relay teams will also swim in North Carolina, as the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle teams for both the men and the women qualified to swim at the NCAA meet.
