Arason finishes seventh in the heptathlon with 5,167 points
ALLENDALE, Mich. – St. Cloud State Women's Track & Field senior Hannah Arason (Grand Forks, N.D.) earned NCAA First Team All-America honors at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday in Allendale, Mich. Arason finished seventh in the heptathlon, finishing with 5,167 points to earn All-America honors for the first time in her career.
She is the third Husky to earn the fifth heptathlon All-America honor in program history, joining Jennifer Higgins (1999 fourth, 2000 sixth, 2001 second) and Heather Miller (2010, seventh).
Arason started the day in 12th place and increased her spot up the leaderboard with an 11th-place finish in the long jump, third-place finish in the javelin and a fifth-place finish in the 800m run. She posted marks of 5.36m / 17-7, 41.85m / 137-3 and 2:21.54, respectively, to finish with 5,167 points.
Arason finished her collegiate career with a banner season in 2022, as she was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Newcomer of the Year on May 18 for her performances over the 2022 indoor and outdoor seasons. She was the first Husky in program history to earn Newcomer of the Year honors from the NSIC, as she earned All-Conference honors in two events at the NSIC Outdoor Championships and was crowned the conference champion in outdoor heptathlon. Fueled by personal record performances and top-5 finishes in all events, Arason passed Concordia-St. Paul's Arika Robinson on the final day of competition to claim the conference title with 5,205 points, becoming the first St. Cloud State student athlete to win the prestigious event since rejoining the NSIC in 2009. She additionally finished third in javelin and scored 18 of the Huskies' 26 team points at the championship meet.
In addition to her strong outdoor season, Arason earned All-Region honors for her performance in pentathlon during the indoor track and field season. Entering the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in mid-March, Arason held the sixth-best mark in Division II at 3,713 points, nearly 500 points over the NCAA Provisional mark. Due to injury, she was unable to compete at either the NSIC Indoor Track and Field and NCAA Championships in the event.
Prior to her time at SCSU, Arason spent four seasons at D-I Minnesota, where she scored in multi-events at both the 2021 Big Ten Indoor and Outdoor Championships, finishing seventh in the pentathlon (3,569 points) and fifth in the heptathlon (5,303 points).
