Huskies record one event win, four scoring (top eight) finishes at NSIC Championships in Mankato Friday and Saturday
MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State Track & Field outperformed its preseason projection at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Indoor Championships by five places, finishing 10th at the meet that was hosted by Minnesota State at Myers Field House in Mankato on Friday and Saturday. Graduate jumper Elena Martinez-Rodriguez (Madrid, Spain) led the charge for the Huskies, scoring 14 of the team's 18.5 points in the meet including 10 points for winning the high jump on Friday. In total, SCSU posted seven personal bests, one season's best, one event win and four scoring finishes (top eight) at the meet.
It was the third week in a row and fifth time this season that Martinez-Rodriguez won a high jump. She became the first Husky to win an event at the indoor conference meet since Natalie Gottschalk (2015-19) won the pentathlon in 2018 and just the seventh Husky to ever win an event at the indoor meet. She also recorded four points after posting a new personal best in the triple jump (11.75m/38-6.75) to finish fifth in the event on Saturday.
Sophomore Lauren Woelfel (Becker, Minn.) tied for fifth in the pole vault, earning the team 3.5 points after clearing 3.61m/11-10 on Friday and the quartet of junior sprinter Jenna Marxhausen (Two Harbors, Minn.), freshman Efe Ottah, freshman Jillian Kneisler and sophomore distance runner Abbygail Nunez (South St. Paul, Minn.) ran a new season's best time in the 4x400 relay (4:03.90) to finish eighth and earn a point for the team on Saturday. Individually, Nunez (1:39.25) and Kneisler (1:43.42) each ran to new personal best times in the 600 prelims on Friday.
Freshman Jordyn Tozer competed in her first career pentathlon on Saturday and recorded three new personal bests in shot put (10.42m/34-2.25), long jump (4.75m/15-7) and the 800 (2:55.25). Sophomore jumper Kinsey Mohwinkle (Aplington, Iowa) leaped to a new personal best in the triple jump (10.59m/34-9) on Saturday.
