
St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey Adds Trio of Transfers

SCSU adds defenseman Dylan Anhorn, goaltender Dominic Basse and forward Grant Cruikshank
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey added a trio of transfers on Thursday, as head coach Brett Larson announced the signings of defenseman Dylan Anhorn, goaltender Dominic Basse and forward Grant Cruikshank. All three join the Huskies with a bevy of experience at the highest level of Division-I hockey.
"We are very excited to add Dylan, Dominic and Grant, three highly-talented veterans of collegiate hockey to our roster for the upcoming season," said Larson. "Each student-athlete brings a unique skill set to our team on the ice and will be a valuable member of our program due to their leadership characteristics. We look forward to getting each of them in our locker room and begin working towards another strong season."
Anhorn, a Calgary, Alberta, native, joins St. Cloud State after three seasons at Union, where he scored 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) in 66 games over the 2019-20 and 2021-22 seasons (Union did not play in 2020-21 due to the pandemic). In his return to the ice this past season, Anhorn recorded 20 points with seven goals, 13 assists and 28 blocks in 29 games. Among team leaders, he ranked third in goals (seven), third in assists (13) and fourth in points (20). He was one of two Union rookies to skate in all 37 games in 2019-20, as he earned ECAC All-Rookie Team honors after scoring six goals and 10 assists for 16 points. In the classroom, Anhorn was named an AHCA All-American Scholar in 2019-20 and an ECAC All-Academic Team honoree in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
Prior to Union, Anhorn played two seasons with the Prince George Spruce Kings (BCHL), totaling 133 games and 41 playoff games. He helped the Spruce Kings capture their first-ever Fred Page Cup and Doyle Cup titles in 2019 and was the leading scorer at the 2019 National Junior A Championship with one goal and seven assists.
Basse, a sixth round (187th overall) draft pick by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019 NHL Draft, joins the Huskies after two seasons at Colorado College, where he went 10-26-3 with a 3.21 goals-against-average and .891 save percentage in 41 games. In 2021-22, Basse was 6-15-2 with a 3.23 GAA and .888 S% for the Tigers, who finished the season 9-24-3. He recorded his first career shutout in a 4-0 win over No. 10 Omaha on Dec. 4 and made 40 saves in a 5-3 victory over No. 10 Boston College on Oct. 22.
Prior to Colorado College, the Alexandria, Va., native played for the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) in 2019-20, where he posted a 14-12 record with a 3.48 GAA and .889 S%. He also played for the Selects Hockey Academy U18 team of the United States Premier Hockey League (USPHL) during the 2018-19 campaign, posting a record of 13-5-1 with a 1.91 GAA and .924 S% while leading the team to the Tier 1 National Championship.
Cruikshank comes to St. Cloud following three seasons at Colorado College (2018-21) and one season at Minnesota (2021-22). This past season with the Gophers, he skated in 33 games with 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) while helping Minnesota win the Big Ten Regular Season Championship and advance to the NCAA Frozen Four. In three seasons for the Tigers, he recorded 45 points (30 goals, 15 assists) in 90 games, including a standout freshman campaign (2018-19) where he scored a career-best 18 points (11 goals, seven assists). He was named captain for the 2019-20 and 2020-21 seasons and was a three-time NCHC All-Academic Team honoree.
In junior hockey, the Delafield, Wis., native skated for the Penticton Vees for two seasons, totaling 74 points (43 goals, 31 assists) in 82 regular season games, while adding 12 points (six goals, six assists in 21 playoff games. He also skated with the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals and the U.S. National U17 Team.
