Foley, Zimmerman and Rachel each put down double-digit kills as the Huskies hit .362
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 8 St. Cloud State Volleyball won their seventh-straight match with a sweep of Lynn on Saturday morning at the Hyatt Place Bash at the Beach.
The Huskies hit .362 in the match with 44 kills, holding the Knights to a .173 hitting percentage. Kenzie Foley double-doubled for the fourth time in 2022 with 13 kills on .435 hitting to go with a match-high 15 digs. Sam Zimmerman delivered a stellar showing, hitting .529 with a career-high 10 kills while matching her career mark with five blocks. Linsey Rachel rounded out the double-figure scoring, sending home 10 kills with nine digs.
SCSU's block piled up 8.0 total stuffs, led by Zimmerman's five. Phebie Rossi, Emma Berran and Foley each added three while Makena Hollman had two blocks.
Turning Point
The St. Cloud State defense settled in after allowing 13 kills in the first set, holding Lynn to eight kills and forcing them into six errors in the second. SCSU hit .407 in the same set, taking a 25-13 win and carrying their momentum into a straight-set victory.
Quotables – St. Cloud State head coach Chad Braegelmann
"I thought we struggled to get rolling a bit in the first couple of points, but after that we played some pretty clean volleyball. We kept them out of system after the first – we didn't serve-and-pass very well in that first set, but we got better as the match progressed. We made some defensive adjustments, we did a good job running through some balls, putting some pressure on them given their speed. We saw a lot of fast sets, some 4's, 8's and 6's, stuff from pin-to-pin that we haven't seen much of this season. I thought our women competed well."
On the Huskies' success making in-match adjustments… "They do a nice job. It helps that we have a couple of fifth-year players and a fourth-year senior plus Makena Hollman and Kenzie Foley in their third year with the program. They know the expectations, they know what we're talking about. We still have freshmen out there who sometimes need a bit more explanation, but it helps when you have experience, maturity and knowledge on the team."
On Sam Zimmerman's strong play… "Sam is pretty fast off of one foot. She does a really great job of being explosive, she likes going off one foot behind the setter. With setters and hitters, it's always a trust dynamic. I think her trust level continues to increase with the pass, with herself, the sets and the set locations. It was fun to watch her have a really good match again today."
