Power Play Goals Lift Colorado College over No. 3/4 St. Cloud State Men’s Hockey

Back-to-back power play goals from CC shifts momentum in their favor
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Despite outshooting the opposition 44-24, No. 3/4 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (15-6-0, 7-4-0 NCHC) fell to Colorado College (10-10-1, 6-4-1 NCHC), 4-2, on Friday evening at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. The Huskies took 1-0 lead heading into the second period before back-to-back power play goals from the Tigers in the second period shifted the momentum of the game.
TURNING POINT
The Huskies led 1-0 in the second period when graduate defenseman Brendan Bushy (Thief River Falls, Minn.) and junior defenseman Brady Ziemer (Carver, Minn.) took penalties at the 4:53 and 6:04 marks of the period, which created a 5-on-3 situation for Colorado College. The Tigers took advantage of the situation, scoring power play goals just over a minute a part to take a 2-1 lead and control of the game.
Colorado College would add a score early in the first and empty netter near the end of the period to tack on to its lead.

- Senior forward Grant Cruikshank (Delafield, Wis.) scored a goal in the first period, his 14th of the season.
- Junior forward Joe Molenaar (Minnetonka, Minn.) scored a goal in the third period, his first of the season.
- Senior goalie Jaxon Castor (Phoenix, Ariz.) made 20 saves while allowing only one even strength goal.
- With the loss, St. Cloud State falls to 63-51-9 all-time against Colorado College and 23-24-6 in St. Cloud.
- The loss snaps a nine-game win streak and 11-game unbeaten streak against the Tigers, with the Huskies last loss coming Nov. 16, 2019, in St. Cloud (5-2).
- St. Cloud State's 44 shots were a season-high, while its 21 shots in the first period was a season-high for a period.
- With his first period tally, Cruikshank extended his career-best goal total to 14 this season. He now ranks sixth in the nation in goals scored.
- Molenaar scored his first goal of the season, scoring for the first time since scoring two goals against Western Michigan on Feb. 12, 2022.
- Castor's 20 saves marked the 10th time this season and the 19th time in his career he has made at least 20 saves.
- Senior defenseman Dylan Anhorn (Calgary, Alberta) recorded his 18th assist on the season, moving him into a tie with Chris Jandric (North Dakota) and Mason Lohrei (Ohio State) for the most assists nationally by defenseman.
- Senior forward Zach Okabe (Okotoks, Alberta), senior defenseman Ondrej Trejbal (Hamry nad Sazavau, Czech Republic) and senior defenseman Spencer Meier (Sartell, Minn.) all recorded assists in the game, their 10th, fifth and third of the season, respectively.
