
St. Cloud State Men's Basketball Gears Up to Host NSIC South Foes

Huskies set to host Augustana & Wayne State
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State men's basketball team will host their last opponents from the NSIC South Division this weekend at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies will host Augustana Friday, Jan. 27 and Wayne State Saturday, Jan. 28.

Friday's game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. while Saturday's game is set for 3:30 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall. The NSIC Network will provide the game streams while Steve Linzmeier, the Voice of Huskies Basketball, will provide live audio coverage on the Varsity Network App. Live stats will be available on the SCSU men's basketball schedule page.

A Look Back
Last weekend the Huskies dropped their weekend matchups to Southwest Minnesota State and Sioux Falls. Against SMSU, The Huskies held the lead for the majority of the first half. St. Cloud would go up 25-15 with 8:05 left in the half. SCSU would then struggle to make a play on offense while SMSU cut the Huskies lead to just three points. After the Mustangs made a pair of free throws the score would be tied at 33 each going into halftime. St. Cloud would take an early lead in the second half until the Mustangs would go up 50-46 at the 12:40 mark. The Huskies cut the lead to just one with 8:50 left in regulation until SMSU went on a 6-0 scoring run to go up 58-51 over SCSU. With just 34 seconds left, the Huskies cut the Mustang's lead to four points. However, the clock was not in favor of St. Cloud as they were forced to foul to get a stop. SMSU would hit their free throws which would seal the game as the Huskies fell 69-58.

Against Sioux Falls, out of the 11 lead changes during the game, ten happened in the first half alone. The Huskies and Cougars battle to secure the lead. Sioux Falls was looking to end the half with a four-point lead until the Huskies hit a three-pointer to close the half down 36-35. SCSU would hold its last lead of the game one minute into the second half. USF would take control of the game going on a 20-4 scoring run to go up 56-41 over the Huskies. The point deficit became too much for St. Cloud to come back from and fell 83-73 to the Cougars.

St. Cloud State Huskies
St. Cloud enters the weekend 7-12 overall and 4-10 in conference play. SCSU sits seventh in the North Division and 14th overall in the conference standing. Going into the weekend, the Huskies are looking to snap a three-game losing streak. Matthew Willert leads the Huskies in scoring averaging 15.1 points per game shooting a .461 and 4.6 rebounds per game. Luke Taylor averages 11.1 points per game and 4.4 rebounds. Ryan Bagley is leading with assists at 95 which places him third in the NSIC.

Augustana Vikings
Augustana enters the weekend 9-11 overall and 5-9 in conference play. Augustana sits seventh in the South Division and 13th overall in the conference standings. Last weekend the Vikings split their weekend matchups taking down Minnesota Crookston while falling to Bemidji State. Augustana is led by senior guard Ryan Miller who averages 13.7 points per game. Senior guard Isaac Fink averages 12.4 points per game and leads the team in rebounding with 7.7 per game.

Wayne State Wildcats
Wayne State will enter the weekend 14-6 overall and 9-5 in conference play. The Wildcats sit second in the South Division and fifth overall in conference standings. Last weekend WSC swept Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston. The Wildcats are led by fifth-year forward Jordan Janssen who is averaging 21.0 points per game and 8.6 rebounds. Janssen is third in the NSIC for scoring, rebounding, and field goal percentage (.556). Fifth-year guard Nate Mohr averages 13.9 points per game while sophomore forward Cody McCullough averages 7.7 rebounds and has 25 blocks this season and is fourth in the conference for blocked shots (1.0 per game).
