St. Cloud State Women's Basketball Suffers Tough Loss to Augustana

Huskies snap a five game win streak
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State women's basketball team suffered a tough loss to the Augustana Vikings Friday evening at Halenbeck Hall which snapped a five-game win streak for the Huskies. St. Cloud struggled offensively in the second period to fall behind at half which they were unable to comeback from to fall 66-48 to the Vikings. Augustana sits atop of the NSIC South Division moving to 18-3 overall, 12-3 in conference while the Huskies will stay at second in the north moving to 14-4 overall, 11-4 in conference.
GAME SUMMARY
The opening minutes of play was back fourth as each team took over the lead in the first. St. Cloud went up 9-6 at the 4:33 mark until a 12-2 run by Augustana put them on top 18-11 over the Huskies to end the first. The Huskies struggled offensively to put points on the board while Augustana took advantage to outscore SCSU 19-9 in the second period. At the half break, St. Cloud went into the locker down 17 points trailing Augustana 37-20. The Huskies may have shot .444 from the field in the second but they only had a 4-9 mark in the field.
During the third period, the Huskies struggled to close in on Augustana's double-digit lead as St. Cloud only brought it within 14 points. Two of SCSU's starters were given their third fouls of the game which put a dent on the Huskies. Augustana would close out the third with an 8-0 run to put them up 53-31 over St. Cloud. The Huskies would out score Augustana 17-13 in the fourth quarter, but the point deficit was too much overcome as St. Cloud fell 66-48 to the Vikings.

The Huskies are back in action tomorrow hosting Wayne State Jan. 28. The game is set for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off at Halenbeck Hall.
