Huskies defeat UMary 80-70

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State men's basketball team closed the weekend on a high note defeating UMary 80-70 Saturday afternoon at Halenbeck Hall. The Huskies set the pace early in the game while getting it done down low with 36 points in the paint. St. Cloud shot .475 from the field with two athletes hitting double-digit marks.

GAME SUMMARY
The Huskies took control early in the game to set the pace, never giving up the lead in the first 20 minutes. Just six minutes in, St. Cloud held a 15-4 lead over UMary after a fast break layup by Luke Taylor. At 11:53, the Marauders managed to cut the Huskies lead to two, 17-15, after a 7-2 run. SCSU jumped by 12 points, 30-18, after Dominic Aguilard sank a three off a turnover with 8:41 left. From there, UMary would rally back and cut it a one-point game going into halftime. The Huskies headed into the locker up 39-38 over the Marauders. St. Cloud shot .433 from the field with Tony Dahl leading at 13 points going 4-7 from the field and a perfect 4-4 from behind the arc.

To open the second half, UMary went on a 7-5 run to take over the lead 45-44. From there, the momentum shifted back to the Huskies as they would go back on top and hold the lead for the rest of the game. At 6:54, Andre Renta drove into the paint where he would increase SCSU's lead to 12, 68-56, over UMary. The Huskies would lose Luke Taylor thirty seconds later as he was called for his fifth foul of the game. Despite losing a big player in the paint, St. Cloud pushed on and held off the Marauders as they would be unable to stop the Huskies. SCSU would come away with an 80-70 victory over UMary. St. Cloud shot .571 from the field in the second.

The Huskies will close the regular season with a home-and-home matchup. On Thursday, Feb. 16 St. Cloud will head up to Bemidji State to take on the Beavers before returning home Saturday, Feb. 18 to close with Minnesota Crookston.
