St. Cloud State Men's Basketball Returns Home for Two Games

Huskies to host Minot State & UMary
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State men's basketball team is gearing up for their last full home weekend of matchups before closing the regular season with a home-and-home. The Huskies will take on Minot State Feb. 10 and UMary Feb. 11.

Friday's game will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. while Saturday's game is set for 3:30 p.m. at Halenbeck Hall. The NSIC Network will provide the game streams while Steve Linzmeier, the Voice of Huskies Basketball, will provide live audio coverage on the Varsity Network App. Live stats will be available on the SCSU men's basketball schedule page.

A Look Back
Last weekend the Huskies fell on the road at Northern State and MSU Moorhead. Against NSU, the Wolves set the pace early opening with two three-pointers to go up 6-0 over St. Cloud. The Wolves would continue their offensive push as they went up by 15, 21-6, over the Huskies at 11:59. SCSU would go on a ten-point run to bring it back to seven, 23-16, against the Wolves. From there, St. Cloud would struggle offensively as the half would end with Northern State holding an 18-point lead, 43-25, over the Huskies. SCSU shot .303 from the field while NSU shot .586 from the field with an .563 from behind the three-point line. During the second half, the Huskies were never able to close the gap into the single digits. At 13:53, St. Cloud would go down by 27, 60-33, to the Wolves. The Huskies managed to bring NSU's lead to 13 points, 72-59, with 2:31 left. St. Cloud couldn't hold off Northern State as they fell 79-61 Friday evening.

Against MSU Moorhead, the first half would end with the Huskies down 37-34 to the Dragons as St. Cloud stayed within reach of MSU Moorhead. The Huskies would hold the lead for the first eight minutes until a 7-0 run put the Dragons up 19-17 at 10:29. The largest lead MSUM would hold over the Huskies was eight points. St. Cloud shot .500 from the field while MSUM shot .403. St. Cloud was unable to hold off the Dragons as they opened up the second half with a 6-0 run to go up 43-34 over SCSU. At 11:44, St. Cloud would make it a two-point, 55-53, game. The Huskies would struggle to push past the Dragons as MSUM would jump up by 15 points, 80-65, with just over two minutes left. St. Cloud would be unable to close the gap to fall 83-68.

St. Cloud State Huskies
The Huskies sit 7-16 overall and 4-14 in conference play. In the North Division St. Cloud sits seventh and 15th overall in the conference standings. Matthew Willert leads the Huskies in scoring averaging 14.3 points per game shooting a .454 and 4.3 rebounds per game. Luke Taylor averages 13.9 points per game and 5.2 rebounds. Ryan Bagley is leading with assists at 116 which places him second in the NSIC averaging 5.0 per game.

Minot State Beavers
UMary enters the weekend 11-11 overall, 7-11 in conference play. Mary sits fifth in the north and 12th overall in the conference standings. Last weekend, UMary split their weekend matchups with a win over Minnesota Crookston while falling to Bemidji State. The Marauders are led by senior guard Kam Warrens who averages 13.1 points per game and 5.9 rebounds. Junior forward Gertautas Urbonavicius averages 9.9 points per game and 5.5 rebounds.

St. Cloud State and Minot State will meet for the 21st time since Minot State joined the NSIC in 2012 as a Division II school. SCSU leads the all-time series 15-6 over Minot with the last matchup being earlier this season where the Huskies fell to the Beavers 96-74 in Minot.
