St. Cloud State Men's Basketball Hangs On in OT Against Minot State

Huskies defeat Beavers 107-105 in overtime
ST. CLOUD, Minn. - The St. Cloud State men's basketball team snapped a seven game losing streak with an exciting overtime finish against Minot State Friday evening at Halenbeck Hall. It was a high scoring game as each team hit the triple digit marks. The Huskies came away with a 107-105 victory over the Beavers in an extra five minutes of play. St. Cloud shot .563 from the field with five athletes scoring in the double-digits and two scoring career highs.

GAME SUMMARY
Minot State opened up the game with an early 5-4 lead until the Huskies went on a run to go up 13-7 at the 14:30 mark. The lead would then jump back to the Beavers where they went up six, 19-13, at the 10:37 mark. Andre Renta sank a three to tie it up at 24 apiece with 6:16 left in the first. Minot would jump back up by six until the Huskies cut the lead to three to end the half down 36-33 to the Beavers. St. Cloud shot .431 from the field with Matthew Willert leading with 12 points.

In the first six minutes of the second half, Minot State held control until Joe Mutimer stole the ball and found Dominic Aguilar for a three to tie it up at 53. The Huskies jumped back on top for the next two minutes until Minot jumped back on top at the 11:00 mark. St. Cloud would be stalled as Minot State went up by seven, 72-62, with 8:30 left in the second. At 5:35, Willert tied it up at 78 with a pair of free throws. Two back-to-back threes from Ryan Bagley gave the Huskies a six-point, 84-78, lead with 3:42 left. Minot State would go on an 11-4 run over the Huskies to tie it up at 89 with 31 seconds left. Renta had the opportunity to close the game but his shot didn't fall through sending the game to overtime. St. Cloud shot .679 from the field and .545 from behind the arc in the second half.

During overtime, the Huskies would never surrender the lead. Tony Dahl drained a three thirty seconds in to put St. Cloud on top. From there, Minot State would try to take over the lead but never could. The Huskies broke into the triple digits after Willert sank a three to put them up 100-95 with two and half left. With just 12 seconds left, it was a one-point game after the Beavers hit a three to cut the Huskies lead to 103-102. Willert sealed the game after Minot sent him to the line with five seconds left for the Huskies to come away with a 107-105 overtime win.

Willert led with a career high 32 points going 9-11 from the field, 5-6 from behind the arc, and 9-9 from the line with five rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and one steal. Taylor set a career high 26 points going 11-20 from the field and 4-4 from the line with four rebounds, three blocks, and two assists
