
St. Cloud State Swim & Dive Ready for NCAA Championships

The Huskies will have six athletes compete in eight individual events and four relays at NCAA meet
ST. CLOUD, Minn. –St. Cloud State Swim & Dive Team will have six athletes and four relay teams competing at the 2023 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships this week in Indianapolis, Ind. The meet will be held March 8-11 with prelims beginning at 9:00 a.m. CT, diving events at 12:00 p.m. CT and finals events at 5:00 p.m. CT.
For the men, four Husky swimmers qualified in individual events, led by junior Raf Hendriks (Berg en Terblijt, Netherlands), who will be competing in three events. The GLIAC champion in the 100-yard and 200-yard backstrokes will compete in those two events and the 200-yard freestyle. Joining Hendriks in the pool is junior Emile Dost (Emmen, Netherlands) in the 200 medley, senior Jayden Porter (Bismarck, N.D.) in the 100-yard backstroke and senior Abe Townley (White Bear Lake, Minn.) in the 50-yard freestyle. Hendriks enters the meet with four All-America honors to his credit, finishing seventh in the 200 back and 14th in the 200 free in 2021, as well as fifth in the 200 back and 13th in the 100 back in 2022. Townley has two All-America honors to his career, finishing 15th in the 50 free in 2020 and fifth in the same event in 2022. Dost and Porter will be seeking their first career All-America honors.
The men will be busy, as the Husky relay teams in the 200-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley, 400-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley will all compete for All-America honors. Freshman Mason Beck (Dickinson, N.D.) will swim in relay events for the Huskies.
For the women, senior Meredith Matchinsky (St. Cloud, Minn.) will take to the diving borad for the Huskies. The NSIC Diver of the Meet and Year enters the NCAA meet coming off conference championships in the 1-meter dive and 3-meter dive. She will be looking to return to All-America status, as she earned top-16 finishes in both event in 2020.
