St. Cloud State gets first win at home
St. Cloud, Minn.- St. Cloud State Men's Basketball (3-3) got back to .500 on the year as they beat Upper Iowa 66-65 in a tightly contested game. It was a defensive battle for the first five minutes of the game as a three by Anish Ramlall gave the Huskies an early 9-5 advantage. The teams went back and forth for most of the first half, but a 7-0 run over the final 1:45 of the half would give the Huskies a 33-31 advantage going into the break. St. Cloud State came out of halftime with urgency as they opened up the half with a 15-4, with 11 of those points coming by way of Wyatt Hawks, to take a 50-35 lead with 11:32 left in the game. With the Huskies having all of the momentum in the game, the Peacocks ramped up their pressure as they used a 17-5 run to trail 52-53 with 6:41 left in the game. Like they did most of the first half, the teams battled back and forth late in the game as St. Cloud State held a 62-59 lead with 32 seconds remaining. The Huskies came up with a big defensive stop as Kynan Philippe grabbed a key rebound where he would be fouled. Philippe stepped to the line and knocked down both free to extend the Huskies lead to 64-59 with 21 seconds remaining. The Peacocks would not go away quietly as they connected on a three-pointer with four seconds left. Upper Iowa would again foul the Huskies as Nate Dahl would head to the line with a chance to put away the game. Dahl iced the game with two makes at the line to give the Huskies a 66-62 lead. Upper Iowa would make a three-pointer at the buzzer, but it would not matter as the Huskies came away with their first home victory of the season with a 66-65 win.
