
St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Drops Nail-biter to Michigan Tech in Season Opener

Both teams match shots and shots on goal in 1-0 result
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (0-1-0, 0-0-0 NSIC) dropped a 1-0 result to Michigan Tech (1-0-0, 0-0-0 GLIAC) in its season-opener on Thursday night at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud. In a tightly contested game, Michigan Tech was able to find the back of the net with just under 15 minutes remaining in the second half for the game's only score.
TURNING POINT
In a back-and-forth game where each team had its chances, the pair of Huskies squads each recorded 10 shots, five each period, and three shots on goal. One of SCSU's better chances came early in the second period when the Huskies nearly executed a corner kick. Sophomore Ana Spaine's (West Des Moines, Iowa) shot off the corner was blocked and ricocheted to sophomore Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.), who let a shot rip but missed wide left.
Michigan Tech scored the game's only goal at the 75:30 mark of the game when Reilly Lovercheck finished off a centering pass from Taylor Noble to make the score 1-0.

- Redshirt junior goalkeeper Meriel Orham (St. Michael, Minn.) got the start in goal and made two saves.
- With the loss, St. Cloud State falls to 2-6-2 all-time against Michigan Tech and 1-3-1 against the Huskies in St. Cloud.
- Six Huskies – Orham, junior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.), sophomore midfielder Cady Compton (Ankeny, Iowa), Spaine, Olson and freshman defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.) – all played a full 90 minutes.
- Four Huskies – Halunen, redshirt freshman forward Gabby Zugel (Plainwell, Mich.), redshirt freshman midfielder Kayla Allen (Holmen, Wis.) and freshman forward Gabby Hofeld (White Bear Lake, Minn.) – all made their collegiate debuts in the game.
