St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Earns First Win of 2024

Huskies take down Northern Michigan, 2-1, avenge 2023 loss
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (1-1-0, 0-0-0 NSIC) picked up its first win of the season, beating Northern Michigan (1-1-0, 0-0-0 GLIAC) 2-1 in its opening weekend finale on Saturday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud. The Huskies took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break before extending its lead to two on the 67th minute. NMU responded with a goal of its own with just under nine minutes left in the game to bring the game to its final score.
TURNING POINT
Junior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) buried a goal in the 26th minute off an assist from senior forward Krysten Schuster (Beamsville, Ontario) to give the Huskies a 1-0 lead and sophomore forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) doubled SCSU's lead in the second half when she made a 25-yard free kick.

Next up, the Huskies will make their first road trip of the season and travel to Chicago, Ill. on Friday, Sept. 13 and Kenosha, Wis. on Sunday, Sept. 15 to play Roosevelt and UW-Parkside respectively. - Redshirt junior goalkeeper Meriel Orham (St. Michael, Minn.) got the start in goal for the second consecutive game and made eight saves, earning her first win of the season.
- With the win, St. Cloud State moves to 5-8-0 all-time against Northern Michigan and 3-3-0 against the Wildcats in St. Cloud.
- Six Huskies – Orham, freshman midfielder Darby Allen (Minnetonka, Minn.), sophomore defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa), sophomore defender Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), junior defender Ella Clow (Minneapolis) and freshman defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.) – all played the full 90 minutes.
- Allen got the start in her collegiate debut.
- Senior defender Alleigh Stout (Mentor, Ohio) made her season debut off the bench, playing 41 minutes.
