St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Outlasts Bemidji State to Advance to NSIC Championship Game

Huskies win shootout 3-2 to advance to NSIC Title Game for second time in program history
MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (14-1-5, 11-1-3 NSIC) outlasted Bemidji State (14-2-4, 11-1-4 NSIC), 3-2 in a penalty kick tiebreaker and 0-0 tie, on Friday morning at The Pitch in Mankato, Minn. With the win, SCSU advances to the NSIC Tournament Championship Game for the second time in program history and for the first time since 2011.
TURNING POINT
SCSU had the advantage in shots on goal (9-5) and corner kicks (7-2), but neither team was able to find the back of the net in 90 minutes of regulation play or 20 minutes of overtime, resulting in a penalty kick tiebreaker.
In the shootout, redshirt sophomore Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) made three stops, making way for junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) and finally junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) to convert their attempts on the second, fourth and fifth tries, respectively, to seal the victory for the Huskies.

SCSU advances to the NSIC Championship game for just the second time in program history and will play either No. 1 seed Minnesota State or No. 4 seed Concordia-St. Paul on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 1:00 p.m. CT.

- With the tie, SCSU is now 11-14-4 all-time against Bemidji State and 1-3-2 against the Beavers in postseason competition.

- SCSU moves to 3-12-3 all-time in NSIC Tournament games and 3-0 in shootouts.
- The 0-0 result is the first scoreless postseason game in program history and the fourth postseason shutout for the Huskies.
- Strickland improved her already program record in shutouts to her 11th blank slate while SCSU's 12th shutout overall also improves their program-best team mark.
