Trapino scores goal and provides assist to lead comeback

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (3-3-3, 2-2-2 NSIC) came back from down two goals to force a draw with Sioux Falls (3-3-3, 1-2-3 NSIC), 2-2, on Sunday afternoon at Husky Stadium in St. Cloud. Senior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) helped will the Huskies to the tie, scoring a goal and assist for three points to lead the offensive charge.

TURNING POINT

The Huskies were forced to climb themselves out of a 2-0 deficit after the Cougars scored twice in four minutes, first scoring on a penalty kick in the 37^th minute and then on a corner kick in the 41^st minute. SCSU responded quickly, scoring just under three minutes later when Trapino beat the USF goalkeeper on a free kick opportunity from just outside the box.

Early in the second half, the Huskies scored on a set piece once again, this time with Trapino taking the corner kick in the 55^th minute. The Husky senior sent the pass into the box, where junior defender Reese Zediker (Caledonia, Ill.) was able to get her head on the ball and beat the keeper for the equalizer.

Trapino had a goal and assist for three points while adding nine shots and three shots on goal.
Zediker's score was her first career goal.

NOTES

With the draw, SCSU moves to 11-1-4 all-time against Sioux Falls while pushing its unbeaten streak against the Cougars to nine games dating back to Oct. 14, 2017.
The Huskies held the advantage in every offensive category, including corner kicks (8-5), shots (19-7) and shots on goal (6-5).
Trapino recorded her fourth goal and second assist to reach 10 points for the fourth consecutive season.
The three-time all-conference honoree continues to move up the SCSU all-time leader board, as she now ranks fourth all-time in goals (24), seventh in assists (14) and third in points (62).
Zediker netted in first career goal and points in her 13^th career game.
Four Huskies, junior defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.), freshman defender Kelly Sprague (Edina, Minn.) and senior goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) and Trapino played a full 90 minutes in the game.

UP NEXT

SCSU will hit the road for its next two games next week, heading to Minnesota Duluth on Friday, Oct. 2 followed by a trip to Bemidji State on Sunday, Oct. 4.
