Huskies push Mavericks to second overtime before game-winner in 105th minute

MANKATO, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (14-2-5, 11-1-3 NSIC) pushed No. 3 Minnesota State (17-1-3, 13-1-1 NSIC) to the brink before falling 2-1 in the second overtime in the NSIC Championship game on Sunday at The Pitch in Mankato, Minn.). Junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) scored the goal for the Huskies while redshirt sophomore Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) was outstanding in net, making a season-high nine saves.

Following the conclusion of the match, Olson and Strickland were joined by senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) and junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) on the NSIC All-Tournament Team.

TURNING POINT

Both teams scored quickly in the first half before settling in for a back-and-forth battle for the rest of the contest. Minnesota State's Reese Hilsenbeck scored in the third minute before Olson's header of a corner kick pass from Trapino in the 19^th minute tied the score at 1-1.

Each team then traded stretches of strong play and chances over the next 85 minutes without finding the back of the net before Avery Korsching's shot from just outside the box won the game for the Mavericks.

TOP HUSKIES

Olson scored her fifth goal of the season while Trapino had her fifth assist.
Strickland made a season-high nine saves, including a clutch save on a Maverick rush with the time running out in the first overtime period.

NOTES

With the loss, SCSU is now 9-28-4 all-time against Minnesota State and 0-4-0 against the Mavericks in postseason competition.
SCSU moves to 3-13-3 in NSIC Tournament games and 0-2-0 in the NSIC Championship game after falling 1-0 to Minnesota State on Nov. 6, 2011.
The Huskies' four All-Tournament selections match its 2011 total for the most in program history.
Olson's fifth goal gives her a new career-high for a season and her 11^th career goal. Her 32 career points (11g/10a) ranks 17^th all-time in program history.
Trapino recorded her fifth assist and now owns the team lead with 19 points. Her 49 career points (19g/11a) rank eighth all-time.
