Huskies will make third NCAA Tournament appearance, will face Gorillas for first time ever

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (14-2-5, 11-1-3 NSIC) is set to make its third consecutive appearance in an NCAA Tournament when the No. 3-seeded Huskies face No. 6-seed Pittsburg State (14-3-2, 9-1-2 MIAA) in the NCAA Central Region first round on Friday, Nov. 21. The game is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m. CT at the Chet Anderson Stadium in Bemidji, Minn.

It will be the first of two first round matches on Friday, with No. 2-seed Bemidji State (14-2-4, 11-1-3 NSIC) and No. 7-seed Central Missouri (10-5-4, 7-2-3 MIAA). The winners will play in the regional second round game on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1:00 p.m. CT.

SERIES HISTORY

With Pittsburg State making the NCAA Tournament in its second season as a program, Friday's game will be the first-ever meeting between the Huskies and Gorillas.

SCSU is 10-14-4 all-time against Bemidji State and 2-6-0 all-time against Central Missouri. The Huskies are 0-1-1 against the Beavers this season, dropping a 2-1 result on Oct. 10 at Husky Stadium before outlasting the Beavers in 0-0 tie and shootout win in the NSIC semifinals on Nov. 14. The Huskies and Mules last met on Sept. 6, 2018, a 3-0 win for UCM.

ANOTHER CAMPAIGN FOR THE RECORD BOOK

SCSU is headed to its third consecutive and third-ever NCAA Tournament appearance after a program-record 14 wins and a runner-up finish in the NSIC Tournament. The Huskies trip to the NSIC Championship Game was its second in program history and first since 2011.

This season, the Huskies have set program records for most wins (14), most conference wins (11) and best start (9-game unbeaten streak in 2025. SCSU had a league-high and program-best eight all-conference honorees, led by senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) and senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) being named to the All-NSIC First Team. Quam was named NSIC Midfielder of the Year (first year of award) after leading NSIC with seven assists, while Primerarno became the third player in program history to earn four all-conference honors and the first in program history to earn three first team all-conference honors. Head Coach Gretta Macdonald recorded her 100^th career victory on Oct. 31 and was named NSIC Coach of the Year for second time in three seasons.

HUSKIES CLEAN UP AT NSIC AWARDS

SCSU had two recognized in specialty awards and eight named to all-conference teams in the end-of-season Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) awards. Head coach Gretta Macdonald was named the NSIC Coach of the Year for the second time in three seasons while senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) was named the NSIC Midfielder of the Year. Additionally, SCSU had a league-high eight individuals earn all-conference honors, with two being named to the first team and six earning second team honors.

Macdonald's coach of the year honor is the second time in three seasons (2023) and the second time ever an SCSU coach has earned the conference's top coaching honor. Quam is the first recipient of the conference's midfielder of the year award. SCSU's eight all-conference honorees match its 2023 total for the most in a season in program history. Quam is joined by senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) on the first team list while sophomore midfielder Darby Allen (Minnetonka, Minn.), sophomore defender Izzy Halunen (Woodbury, Minn.), junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa), redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) and junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) all earned second team honors.

UPSET MINDED HUSKIES

SCSU earned its statement win of the season to-date in the regular season finale, upending and handing then-No. 2 Minnesota State its first loss of the season in a 1-0 victory on Nov. 6 in Mankato. With the win, SCSU improved to 9-27-4 all-time against the Mavericks and snapped a five-game winless streak against Minnesota State. The win snapped a 36-game unbeaten streak in home conference games for the Mavericks, with its last loss coming on Nov. 8, 2019, a 1-0 setback to Concordia-St. Paul.

MACDONALD GETS 100

Head coach Gretta Macdonald reached a career milestone when she earned her 100^th career victory in a 4-1 win over Wayne State on Oct. 31. In her 12^th season as head coach (no season in 2020 due to pandemic), Macdonald is already the program's longest tenured and winningest coach at 103-71-36 (.576). She helped the Huskies capture its first-ever conference championship in 2023 when the team won the NSIC Regular Season championship, and she has led the program to its first three NCAA Tournament appearances in 2023, 2024 and 2025. Her teams have 10 program records, including most victories (14, 2023 & 2025), best winning percentage (.786, 2025), most conference wins (11, 2025) most shutouts (12, 2025), and fewest goals allowed (15, 2024).

25-POINT CLUB ADDITIONS

For the first time in program history, St. Cloud State Women's Soccer has four current student athletes with 25 career points. Two Huskies, senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) and junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa), reached the 25-point club this season, joining senior Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) and junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) who reached the milestone last season.

Quam reached 25 points in SCSU's 1-0 win over Michigan Tech on Sept. 7 and then recorded three assists in a 5-0 win over UW-Parkside on Sept. 12 to match a career-high for assists in a game. She is just the second Husky in program history to have multiple games with three or more assists, joining Kim Corbin who did it four times. Quam currently leads the NSIC in assists with seven. Her 21 career assists rank second all-time while her 35 career points rank 14^th.

Olson is the latest to join the 25-point club with an assist in a 2-1 win over Minnesota Duluth on Oct. 12, becoming the 25^th Husky in program history to reach the mark. Olson has scored 2+ goals and 2+ assists in each of her three seasons as a Husky, including a 15-point (5g/5a) performance so far this season.

Primerano and Trapino continue to work their way up the all-time scoring list for the Huskies. Primerano currently ranks fifth with 54 points (17g/20a) while Trapino ranks eighth with 49 points (19g/11a).

STRICKLAND STRICT IN NET

Redshirt sophomore Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) has been elite in net for the Huskies this season as she continues to build on an impressive campaign that will be remembered in the record book. The now two-time All-NSIC second team selection has produced an 14-2-5 mark in net with a 0.57 GAA, .854 S% and 11 shutouts while earning her first career NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week honor on Oct. 6.

Among program records for a single season, Strickland's marks currently rank first in GAA, first in shutouts and fourth in S%. Among career records, she already ranks first in wins (27) and first in shutouts (19).
