St. Cloud State Women’s Soccer Advances to NSIC Semifinals with 3-0 Win over Augustana

Huskies score three second-half goals to advance to NSIC semifinals for fifth time in program history
ST. JOSEPH, Minn. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (14-1-4, 11-1-3 NSIC) scored three second-half goals to power past Augustana, 3-0, in the NSIC Tournament Quarterfinals on Monday after in St. Joseph, Minn. With the win, SCSU advances to the NSIC Tournament semifinals for the fifth time in program history (2009, 2011, 2019, 2023, 2025) and matches the most wins in a season in program history at 14, matching its total from 2023.
TURNING POINT
The first half was evenly played with SCSU holding a slight advantage in shots (6-4) and corner kicks (4-2), but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
The Huskies didn't take long to strike in the second half, scoring twice in the first seven minutes of the half to gain control and momentum of the game. First, sophomore forward Gabby Hofeld (St. Paul, Minn.) was able to clean up a rebound off a shot attempt from senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) in the 50th minute to get the Huskies on the scoreboard. SCSU found the back of the net again just two minutes later in the 52nd minute when junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) sent a continuation free kick into the box and Primerano got a touch on it and over to junior midfielder Cady Compton (Ankeny, Iowa) to score the goal.
Junior forward Linsey Trapino (Verona, Wis.) tacked on the Huskies' third goal in the 78th minute when she worked her way around a defender on the right side of the box and executed a beauty of a left-footed kick to beat the Viking goalkeeper.

SCSU will play the No. 2 seed in the tournament, Bemidji State on Friday, Nov. 14 in the NSIC Tournament semifinals. The match will be played at 10:00 a.m. CT at The Pitch in Mankato, Minn.

- The 3-0 win is its largest margin of victory in an NSIC Tournament game.
- SCSU advances to the NSIC Tournament semifinals for the fifth time in program history after also reaching the final four in 2009, 2011, 2019 and 2023. The Huskies only trip to the NSIC Tournament championship game came in 2011.
- The Huskies matched a single season program record with their 14th win, equaling their mark from 2023.
- Not even finished with her second season on the pitch, Strickland now owns three program records all by herself, sitting alone atop single season wins (14), single season shutouts (10) and career shutouts (18). She also recorded her 27th career win, matching Kenzie Hanzlik's program record total (27-26-5, 2010-14).
- Primerano matched her career-high with two assists in the game as she reached the mark for the third time in her career (vs. MSU Moorhead, 10/23/22; at Minnesota Crookston, 11/2/23).
- Primerano's 20 career assists rank fourth in program history behind Kim Corbin (23, 1999-00), Chris Fleischer (21, 1995-99) and teammate senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) (21, 2022-25).
- On the all-time scoring list, Primerano moves to fifth all-time with 54 points (17g/20a), surpassing Trista Cooke (53 points, 2003-06).
- Trapino netted her seventh goal of the season with her second-half score. Her 19 career goals rank eighth all-time in program history as she passes Claire Shea (18, 2018-21). On the all-time scoring list, she moves to eighth with 48 career points (19g/10a).
- Compton and Hofeld netted their fourth career assists while Hofeld recorded her second career game-winning goal.
- Olson's assist was her 10th career helper.
