Primerano’s Score Lifts Huskies to Road Victory over Michigan Tech

Huskies get first win of the season on Primerano goal, Strickland shutout
HOUGHTON, Mich. – St. Cloud State Women's Soccer (1-0-1, 0-0-0 NSIC) earned its first win of the 2025 season, beating Michigan Tech (0-2-0, 0-0-0 GLIAC), 1-0, on Sunday afternoon in Houghton, Mich. Senior forward Ellie Primerano (Saint Joseph, Mich.) scored in the 73rd minute to give the Huskies the lead and eventually the victory.
TURNING POINT
SCSU pushed the pace for much of the match, holding possession for 55 percent of the game and outshooting the Michigan Tech Huskies 17-6, including 9-3 in the first half. The SCSU Huskies also had nine corner kicks comparted to two for MT.
The Huskies goal came in the 73rd minute when junior midfielder Grace Olson (West Des Moines, Iowa) intercepted a pass at midfield and pushed it back down the field quick to junior midfielder Cady Compton (Ankeny, Iowa) and then to senior midfielder Brooke Quam (Lakeville, Minn.) Quam ran up the center of the field and then found a streaking Primerano, who made it past the defense and was able to get her shot attempt past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net for her first score of the season.
Redshirt sophomore Jaylee Strickland (Columbus, Ohio) made four saves in the game and kept MT off the scoreboard to preserve the 1-0 win.

SCSU will return to St. Cloud for its home opener on Friday, Sept. 12 when the Huskies host UW-Parkside at 7:00 p.m. CT.

- Three Huskies played a full 90 minutes in the game – Strickland, junior defender Ana Spaine (West Des Moines, Iowa) and sophomore defender Izzy Halunen (West Des Moines, Iowa).
- Freshman Laney Haviland (West Des Moines, Iowa) made her collegiate debut in the contest.
