Huskies led shots on goal 39-32 and faceoffs 38-25 but still get swept
OMAHA, Neb. – No. 17 St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (11-13-0, 4-10-0 NCHC) dropped its sixth consecutive game in a 3-1 setback to Omaha (14-10-0, 10-4-0 NCHC) on Saturday night at Baxter Arena in Omaha, Neb. SCSU tied the game at 1-1 in the second period and outplayed the Mavericks for long stretches of the game, but Omaha retook the lead in the second and scored on an empty net goal made the score 3-1.
For the second straight net, the first 20 minutes of the game went scoreless as SCSU weathered the storm and kept UNO out of the net despite being outshot 11-6. Also, just like last night, Omaha struck first in the second period when Harrison Israels shot from above the left dot made its way through traffic and found the back of the net at 1:30 in the second frame. SCSU responded eight minutes later to tie the game on a rush play up the ice at 9:57. Junior forward Adam Ingram (West St. Paul, Manitoba) pushed the puck up to sophomore forward Jack Reimann (Ham Lake, Minn.) on the rush, and then paused above the left dot to let the defense go past him and then walk towards the net to fire a rifle for the score. The tie didn't last for long, however, as Omaha responded 3:49 later with a goal from Chase LaPinta to make the score 2-1.
The two teams played an even third period with the shots on goal even at 15-15, but an empty net goal with 37 seconds remaining ended SCSU's hopes to tie the game.
