Huskies improve to 3-1 in five set matches, sweep season series against Wolves
ST. CLOUD, Minn. – No. 11 St. Cloud State Volleyball (16-5, 11-2 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) fended off No. 22 Northern State (16-5, 8-5 NSIC) in five sets on Friday night at Halenbeck Hall in St. Cloud. The Huskies took the back-and-forth match 23-25, 25-20, 25-17, 22-25 and 15-12 to earn the season sweep over NSU.
TOP HUSKIES
"That was a hard-fought victory for the Huskies tonight. Northern State was on fire offensively, especially early in the match. We had a really hard time slowing down their middles. I thought they passed the ball really well, and we struggled to get them out of system. After the first set, we settled down and played cleaner volleyball and were much better defensively. We did a better job getting blocking hands up and slowing some balls down. Once again, we had four attackers with over 15 kills, which is a recipe for success. Set four didn't go our way and we gave up a little run early, but then it was nice to have control and an early lead in the fifth, but once again we struggled a little bit siding out and found ourselves in a tight set. Overall, I am really proud of the plays we made late and did enough to grind out the win."
