Huskies score first goal before giving up next three in setback
ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Cloud State Men's Hockey (6-6-0, 1-3-0 NCHC) fell to St. Thomas (4-5-1, 1-1-0 CCHA), 3-1, on Tuesday night at Lee & Penny Anderson Arena in St. Paul, Minn. The Huskies scored the first goal of the game, but then surrendered the next three without finding the back of the net again.
SCSU was the first to find the back of the net sophomore forward Austin Burnevik (Ham Lake, Minn.) was able to clean up a rebound in front of the net at the 6:38 mark of the first period. Sophomore defenseman Thor Byfuglien (Roseau, Minn.) began the chance by carrying the puck around the net before a centering pass went through the crease, hit the skate of freshman forward Noah Urness (Roseau, Minn.) and back through the crease to Burnevik's stick, where he tapped it in for the 1-0 lead. The Tommies then evened the score at 1-1 with 2:32 left in the period on Attila Lippai's first goal of the season.
St. Thomas scored twice in the second period to push its lead to 3-1 on goals from Alex Gaffney and Lucas Wahlin. In the third period, SCSU outshot UST 13-5 and skated with an extra skater for more than three minutes but couldn't narrow its deficit, falling 3-1.
