St. Cloud State Men's Hockey Set for First Road Series of Season at No. 7 Minnesota Duluth

Huskies and Bulldogs to play Friday and Saturday at Amsoil Arena
THE MATCHUP
- St. Cloud State Men's Hockey hits the road for the first time in nearly a month when the Huskies head to No. 7 Minnesota Duluth for its first road series in NCHC play this weekend at Amsoil Arena in Duluth. The series will begin on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. CT and will conclude on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 6:00 p.m. CT on NCHC.tv (subscription required). On the radio on KNSI (99.3 FM / 1450 AM), the voice of the Huskies Jim Erickson will handle play-by-play duties with former Husky captain Dave Reichel on color commentary. SCSU is coming off a split with then-No. 3 Western Michigan, falling in an 11-goal thriller Friday before a dominant 5-1 win on Saturday. The Bulldogs opened NCHC play at North Dakota with a 3-2 overtime win on Friday before falling 5-1 on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY
- SCSU and UMD continues its rivalry with its first meeting of the 2025-26 season in Duluth. The Huskies hold a 84-68-11 advantage in the all-time series, but UMD has won four of the last five games and is 6-4-0 against the Huskies in the last 10 meetings. The Bulldogs won three of the four matchups last season, sweeping the series up in Duluth with 3-0 and 5-2 wins on Jan. 10-11 before the two teams split the series in St. Cloud with a 3-2 OT Huskies win and a 3-2 Bulldog win on March 7-8. In SCSU's win, the Huskies came back from being down 2-0, scoring with an extra attacker goal from senior defenseman Josh Zinger to force overtime before senior defenseman Cooper Wylie scored the overtime winner.
DYNAMIC DUO
- If you don't know them, get to know them. Sophomore forward Austin Burnevik and junior forward Tyson Gross have each jumped out to a hot start to the 2025-26 campaign and are starting to become household names in the nationwide conversation. The duo own the longest active point streaks in the nation this season at nine games and are two of just three players to score in every game their team has played this season, joining Miami's Kocha Delic. The pair's scoring streak extends past this season, with Burnevik's streak at 11 consecutive games dating back to March 14, 2025 and Gross' at 10 consecutive games dating back to March 15, 2025.
- Burnevik's 11-game point streak is the longest by a Husky since Jonny Brodzinski had an 13-game point streak from Dec. 12, 2012 - Feb. 2, 2012. Since 2002-03, only six Husky skaters have recorded seven point streaks of 10+ games. The pair joins Garrett Roe (14, 2007-08), Jonny Brodzinski (13, 2012-13), Drew LeBlanc (13, 2012-13) and Ryan Lasch (11, 2007-08; 10, 2007-08).
LETHAL POWER PLAY
- The Huskies have been lethal on the man advantage to open the 2025-26 season, scoring 17 of its 35 goals on the man advantage with at least one power play tally in every game this season and five games with multiple power play goals. SCSU's 39.5 percent success rate (17-of-43) and 17 power play goals both rank second in the nation. In its last five games, the Huskies are a scorching 12-of-25 (48 percent) on the man advantage.
- The Huskies' four power play goals against Vermont on Oct. 18 were its most since scoring four against St. Thomas on Oct. 7, 2023 while sophomore forward Austin Burnevik netted two of the four power play tallies to become the first Husky to score two power play goals in the same game since Grant Cruikshank scored two at Omaha on Feb. 24, 2023.
- Burnevik's six power play goals are also the top mark in the nation. Including the last two games of last season, SCSU has now scored in a program-best 11 consecutive games.
NO STOPPING BURNEY
- After becoming the first freshman in program history to lead the team in both goals and points in 2024-25, sophomore forward Austin Burnevik is picking up right where he left off a season ago. The rising sophomore ranks among the nation's best among goal scorers, ranking first in power play goals with six and second in overall goals with 100. Additionally, Burnevik is just one of two skaters in the NCHC to be averaging more than one goal per game and leads the way at 1.11 goals per game.Â
- The 2024-25 All-NCHC Rookie Team honoree has scored in every game this season with his nine-game point streak serving as the longest active scoring streak in the nation. He also scored in the last two games of last season, moving his active point streak to 11 games, the longest scoring streak by a Husky since Jonny Brodzinski had an 13-game point streak from Dec. 12, 2012 - Feb. 2, 2012. Since 2002-03, only six Husky skaters have recorded seven point streaks of 10+ games. GROSS IN THE DOT
- Junior forward Tyson Gross has been dominate in the faceoff circle this season, winning a NCAA-best 65.1 percent (125-67) of his faceoffs through nine games. Gross posted a NCAA-high 20 wins in both games of the Alaska Anchorage series. Gross went 20-2 in the dot on Friday and 20-5 on Saturday in the series sweep of Alaska Anchorage.Â
- Gross has scored in every game this season, collecting three goals and team-best 10 assists, tying him for the longest active scoring streak in the nation (with teammate Austin Burnevik).
- After scoring just five points in SCSU's first 13 games of the 2024-25 season, Gross scored 20 points (7g/13a) in the last 23 games last season. Dating back to Dec. 6, 2024, Gross has produced more than a point per game at 1.03 ppg with 33 points (10g/23a) in 32 games.
- Gross scored a power play goal and had two assists in SCSU's 5-1 win over Western Michigan (Nov. 1) to extend his point streak to 10 consecutive games dating back to March 15, 2025. His 10-game point streak is the just the seventh streak of 10+ games in program history since 2002-03.
- Gross' three points match a career-high, the third time he has reached that mark after also reaching that mark against Omaha on Dec. 7, 2024 and against Colorado College on Feb. 21, 2025.
NEVER COLD IN NET FOR BRRR-ZINS
- Sophomore goaltender Patriks Berzins has made the most out of his three starts in net for the Huskies, posting a 3-0-0 mark with a 1.31 goals-against-average and .958 save percentage. Berzins has only allowed four goals all season, with only two coming even strength.Â
- Berzins made 32 saves and helped lift the Huskies to a 5-1 victory over No. 3 Western Michigan on Nov. 1, the Huskies first victory over a top-three ranked opponent since Jan. 7, 2023 when SCSU beat No. 3/1 Minnesota, 3-0 in St. Cloud.

- GAME 2 - 5-1 win vs. Western Michigan (11-1-25)
- With the win, SCSU snaps a five-game losing streak and improves to 26-20-5 all-time against Western Michigan.
- The Huskies win over No. 3 Western Michigan is its first over a top-three ranked opponent since Jan. 7, 2023 when SCSU beat No. 3/1 Minnesota, 3-0 in St. Cloud.
- SCSU scored five goals in its fourth consecutive game, marking its first streak of four consecutive games with five or more goals since Nov. 19 – Dec. 9, 2022, when the Huskies scored five, seven, six and seven goals.
- With 20 goals in its last five games, the Huskies are now averaging 3.9 goals per game, which ranks third in the NCHC and eighth nationally.
